We are having a one bed and plan to do lots of eating at home as it will be easier with our fussy eating 18 month old. We aren't hiring a car, so my plan is to get a taxi to a wallmart, or similar, on our first full day. I know we can get some food from the online grocery form, but I'd rather go to a store as last time we found the quanties and description of some items rather confusing (US - UK wordings) and it's key that i get exactly what I want so that DS actually eats something :upsidedow

So the big question - where should we go to get our shopping? Where do you go? If we get a taxi any ideas of costs???

Thanks everyone :goodvibes

I'd be deathly afraid of a massive taxi bill. Some Taxi drivers can make an intra-WDW trip $20, let alone getting stuck in traffic outside WDW with the meter running. If you insist on one, I'd limit shopping to the Goodings? down the non-Disney hotel strip from DTD.

I have heard of families renting a towncar from the airport and having a stop at a Walmart or grocery store on the way to WDW. Hopefully others can chime in with other options.

We rent a car for a day to do our shopping. That way we know what our fees will be and we can go to Walmart, Publix, and even eat a meal off property if we want.

We went to Gooding's during our 2008 trip and all I can say is don't go there! Things were grossly overpriced, even for the convience, they missed packing some of our groceries and when I called back they didn't have them. A member of bell services (apparently since they work on tips only) offered to drive us anywhere we wanted. We chose Goodings since it was close (we were staying at SSR) and our flight was delayed (didn't get checked in until after 8pm). I would spend the extra money and go somewhere else. Goodings selection was very limited, not much variety and hardly any fresh fruit! As far as I'm concerned it was a glorified convience store. But this was just my experience!

I'd rent a car from alamo on property for one day. They pick you up at your resort. It should be under $40 for a small car, which will probably be less than rt taxi fare. I shop at the publix in Regency Square on Vineland (near the outlets and Mary Queen of the Universe) - they have a good selection, lots of things in small packaging, and good fruits and veggies.

To the OP: is the online grocery form that you're talking about the DVC one without pictures of the products? If so, that won't help you much if you're not familiar with what they're offering. If you haven't done so yet, check out Garden Grocer in Orlando. Their website has pics of every product. That may save you an expensive cab ride or car rental. We decided on them for our stay last week and will use them again in March.

Thanks everyone... some helpful thoughts and ideas.
Monkeyknuckler - hadn't heard of the garden grocer... am browsing the site now and it looks very promising - thanks :)

We use to use GG. The last time our delivery had mistakes and some missing items and it took 3 days and several phone calls to get it corrected. We also noticed that the prices that we paid were higher than the actual prices in addition to the delivery fee.

That's when we decided to rent a car for a day.

OK, I've hit a snag... trying to register for the garden grocer but my billing address seems to need to be a US one, and we are in the UK - d'oh! Any tips anyone?

Another grocery delivery company to check out is WeGoShop.com
Many people have used them and like the service. You give them a personalized grocery list and pay for the groceries upon delivery. Hopefully this could work out for you.

Have you tried using your Disney resort address... this may work?

Queendarvet, thanks for that website... have had a look!
McCrae, have emailed the gardengrocer and they replied promptly telling me to put my home address but with my state as Florida! So all sorted and have been making a shopping list... :)
