Grocery Prices

We pay $3 for a gallon of skim but it's been like that for a long time now. I can get it cheaper at Costco but we don't go there as often & it's not close by.

Cheese has gone up quite a bit and madarin oranges have doubled in price at Baker's (Kroger). I used to get them for $1 a can but now they are $1.98! I still get them for around $1 at Hyvee or Walmart though, very odd to me. Chips are also expensive here. Luckily we like the store brand pretzels but I cringe when the kids want specific chips for school parties or sleepovers, they are expensive!

Just looking through some of your prices in the US and comparing them to Canada prices. It depends on what province you're in for some things. In the prairies, a bar of cheese 500g (a little over a pound) can run up to $15.00. In Ontario it's anywhere from $4.99 on sale to $8.99.
A bag of milk (our milk comes in bags , three bags to a package. It's gone from $3.99 to about $4.99. I think a bag would be a little more than a gallon. Hamburger is about $3.49 a pound.
Everything is going up here too. It's frustrating! Even buying local seems to be more expensive.
A package of bacon 1lb, would be anywhere from $4.49 - $5.99 unless you luck out and get it on sale.
I LOVE grocery shopping in the States because of the selection. It used to be a lot cheaper, but not anymore. It's still fun to get some different items though!

$5 for a twelve pack of can Coke products! Absurd, not spending that on a non-essential item.

I buy when they're on sale or not at all.

Here a few things I have noticed that have skyrockted

Milk 4.00 a gallon
OJ 6.00 a gallon
bread is 200 or so
bacon is 4.00 a package
soda is almost 7.00 for a 24 pack

For me, it was butter. I noticed one day that the STORE brand of butter was like $3.50 for a pound. It doesn't seem that long ago to me that the store brand was like $1.29 or maybe even less! :scared1:

We pay 3.50-3.75 for a gallon of milk here.

$3.79 for store brand milk here...over $4 for brand name...$5.29 organic per gallon
$3.50-$3.75 is for store brand milk any brand name can be $4-$5

I was going to comment on the butter/margerine as well it has more than doubled in price. Cereal is expensive too. There are few name brands that I buy now, Cheerios I do as I haven't found a store b and that I like and the occasional box of Life.

Meat I try to only buy on sale (I remember a while back there was a heated thread about buying discounted meat- the packages that are being cleared out usually with a coupon on it- anyway despite hearing how that meat would lead to my demise, I still buy it anyway, repackage into meal size portions and freeze it unless I am using it that night)

Oh and chocolate chips I remember when they were a lot less than they are now never buy brand names with that either.

I do use coupons, always have but I notice with those (non)reality coupon shows there are not as many high value coupons as their used to be. We don't have a store here that doubles either.

We are paying 4.52 for a gallon of milk here. (its 4.79 a littre but to convert it to a gallon it would be the 4.52) (This is the most suprising, it just keeps going up but never goes on sale)
Bread is typically 3.49 unless you can get it on sales for 2.99

That's what I was going to mention. I need to start making more Kool-Aid because DS drinks a lot & will go after the sodas if its that or water.

I've started hitting up Aldi a lot more & planning our meals around what we get from Angel Food. I like having fresh fruits & veggies in the house but they're sooo expensive.

FYI, I've found great prices on fresh fruits & veggies at our local Asian Market. I bought a clamshell of grapes for $3 there last week. Its a bit out of the way but I can stop by there once a month or so & I plan on adding it to my 'route'.

I have been cravin BBQ chips, and I went to Publix tonight. I was going to pick up a bag, even though they weren't a "need". They were BOGO, but $4.29/bag! Sure, it's still "only" $2.15/bag, but all I could see was that it was nearly $5 for a bag of chips.

The Great Value (Walmart) brand of bbq chips (and the sour cream and onion too BTW) are FANTASTIC...BETTER than Lays IMHO. They are selling here in the Denver area for $1.98 bag at Walmart. I used to stock up on name brand chips at Sam's...now I but the GV ones because my husband LOVES them. In fact, I've found a lot of the GV brand to be just as good as name brand.

Milk here in Denver is around $2.50/gallon at Walmart and Supertarget. Those are the only two stores I buy my groceries at, along with Sam's Club. King Soopers, Safeway and Albertson's are ridiculously expensive!

That's interesting about your milk prices at Walmart. Here it is the Most espensive place to buy milk.

Bananas are .69 a pound here. I've also noticed the price of eggs are rising.
