thank goodness we are driving, and have the option of boxing up a lot of dry groceries, because I just printed out a grocery order for VB, and all I can say is HOLY COW! It would be cheaper for us to just eat out all three meals, probably. At first, you may think the prices are comparable, UNTIL you see the size. Sure,$2.95 is a great price for milk, until you see it is for only a half gallon!

Ouch, indeed!

There is a new Publix and a Wal-Mart Supercenter very close by, so you should be able to get everything else you need without breaking the bank.

Have a great trip!

Hi! Do you have the address/directions to the Publix and Wal-Mart? Are they closer than the Wal-Mart down 192? Last time we were on vacation we went to the Super Target, but it would be great if there was something closer. Thanks!

Who is your grocery order from? We used Garden Grocer and they delivered and it was not bad at all. They have a website we ordered from and then in the notes section ordered beer. We had no problems and it was well under eating out each night...smjj

Update: I just reread the OP post and realized they were referring to VB, sorry. I think Garden Grocer also delivers there also, you might check it out..

The Wal-Mart is at 2001 US HWY 1 in Sebastian, and the Publix is at 9621 N. US HWY 1--they are both considered to be in Sebastian.

If you're heading from the resort, you turn right on A1A, and then left on 510 (Wabasso Road). You take 510 to US 1 and turn right. You'll see the Publix first (it's the closer of the 2) and the WalMart is a few miles further up on US 1. Both will be on your left coming from the resort.

I must confess I'm terrible with directions :guilty:
If you're checking into the resort first, they have detailed maps of what's nearby. If you'll be shopping on your way there, you can print better directions on MapQuest. I seem to do that a lot.

Enjoy your trip!

Remember, the OP is talking about Vero Beach, not the WDW area. Sebastian would be the closest majr shopping area to the DVC resort. Online delivery services like Garden Grocer probably do not deliver that area.

Michelle,

I think the Wal-Mart is about 11 miles away, the Publix less than 7, so you're looking at 15 minutes or less, unless traffic is really heavy. It took us less than 10 minutes to get to Publix over the Memorial Day weekend. :sunny:

Ooops, Michelle-I apologize.
I thought you were talking about VB just as the OP was.
If you're at WDW, GardenGrocer is the way to go :)

We actually don't mind the "gift shop" prices. How much milk are we going to use anyway? It isn't a savings if we buy the gallon at $2.35 from Publix and toss half of it.

On arrival day at VB we always head out to Capt Hiriams for dinner and Super Wal-mart is almost across the road. So we pick up essentials and we are set for the week. We always fix breakfast in the room at the beach and the kids get snacks and sandwich fixings. Having a kitchen does come in handy at the beach!

With 3 kids, and a cereal-loving DH, we need at least a gallon of milk for the week. Plus, I need milk when I make scrambled eggs, or pancakes.

Can you tell we make full use of the kitchen? LOL

Much cheaper to buy beer at Publix!

Nice to see another New Englander that makes the drive to WDW!!!

We are from RI......do you drive straight through?? car? RV?

Just curious!

Your DH and mine must be related! Between DH and DS12, we went through 3 gallons of milk during our last 5 day stay. Thank heavens for those big bags of cereal

I don't know what we'd do without that kitchen.... Oh yeah, we would have spent all our 'points' money on dining out. :)

Yes, we drive straight through. This will be our 4th time driving, our fastest time was 19 hours, coming home. Could never do it without the DVD player! Gotta love modern technology! :thumbsup2

We almost always use the Super Walmart...

That way we can pick up a life jacket, sun block, lawn chairs, or etc... The prices are usually very reasonable..

At VB, I have never used their grocery store... We usually have to have a car to get there, and since VB is not really a tourist area, other grocery stores are not usually pricing at a premium...

We are DVC members from the UK, staying at OKW over Christmas. Gardengrocer are brilliant. I contacted them with a question and also said that the only other thing that I needed to get sorted was an artificial 6ft christmas tree. They offered to source this for me also, which is brilliant as it means that we can get on with our vacation over Christmas and not worry about decorations and groceries.

They were very helpful and I would recommend them to anybody.
