Grocery dilemma

Looking for advice on groceries. We really want to be able to get groceries when we arrive at BWV in a couple of weeks, here is my quandry..... Our flight gets in at 11:30 in the morning, so if we take a towncar and make a grocery stop-we have no place to put our perishables since check in isn't until 4:00. The other side is we could rent a car and go later, but the cost of the rental car negates the savings we would have by buying groceries in the first place. Any suggestions on this topic would be greatly appreciated!

Use the towncar stop to get the groceries, have them put in a cardboard boxes and check them with your luggage. [put your name all over the box]

Some people even have a web grocer deliver the groceries the day before they arrive!![with their name printed on all sides of the box, makes it easier to find!]

Perhaps you could buy a styrofoam cooler and ice at the grocery store and pack the cooler. it should stay cool until you can get into your room.

With the temperatures here in Florida, keeping your perishables cold could be a problem when your room isn't ready. Don't know which grocery store you will be using. Publix Supermarket is a large chain throughout Florida and our store here in Daytona Beach carries chest-type styrofoam coolers at a reasonable price. Be sure your purchases will fit in the cooler. Grab a bag of ice there, too, and toss it in. Be sure you have something to keep it tightly shut (clear packing tape?) and your hotel staff should be able to handle it properly with your luggage.

You might also be able to pack a folding (softside) cooler in your luggage if you have one at home. Walmart usually has a selection.

Good Luck and Have a Great Time!

I read on another site that the resort would store your perishables for
you until your room is ready. Does anyone know if this is true?

I went three weeks ago. We got our groceries-- we checked in at 1pm but couldn't get the room until 4pm. It was very easy-- when the bellman took our bags when we unloaded the towncar, we just put all the perishables in one grocery sack, and they refrigerated them. They are set up for this situation, it is very common. When you get your room and call for your luggage, everything comes up.

I called DVC yesterday and they told me that they do not have the facilitites to keep our perishables cold at BWV-trying to figure out which way to go here. The foldable cooler is a great idea though-we have one of those. Should I call BWV direct and see what they have to say? I just assumed DVC would know the answer to my question.....so much for that.

We will be facing the same dilema when we go late next month. While we have a rental car
that still doesn't solve the problem of what to do with any perishables we might want to buy. So, my plan is to buy non-perishables at Goodings, leave 'em in the car 'til the room is ready, then go to the Gourmet shop at DD for the perishables. It may be pricier than Goodings, but it's just a few items and I love any excuse to make a stop there anyway. They have such yummy stuff. Really, the only things that won't keep in a car for a few hours are milk and frozen stuff. So, it's not that much.

I am a DVC member at BWV and unless they have changed since last July, they do have a refrig for storing pershibles. We have always stored our pershibles on numerous trips to BWV, including our last trip to BWV 3 months ago. Unfortunately with Disney sometimes one hand does not know what the other is doing and I think this is the case with pershible's storage at BWV. I think member services at DVC gave you incorrect information.

When we arrived in DW September 30, we used TTC and stopped for 3 bags of groceries. We arrived at our hotel (SOG) 10:30 in the morning because our flight was changed. They let us store all our luggage and grocery bags in a room they have for that purpose. No problem unless you have refrigerated items (we didn't). Also, most of the Disney hotels will let you check in much earlier, as long as the room is ready. Most of them are underbooked right now, and you should be able to check in early anyway.

you can have all your food items delivered to your room. Most Disney
resorts offer this option , as they all have a grocery store on site. If not, you can check
a web based site, or check with local supermarkets about delivery service to your hotel.
I'm sure the small fee will be cheaper then renting a car to go shopping.
