Curious what the prices are like at the store in Fort Wilderness. We do not plan on renting a car while there, so our options are the store at the resort or Garden Grocers. I looked at the site for Garden Grocers and thought their prices were pretty high for things that I would purchase. I know people on here have used them and were happy with the service and found their prices to be decent, but I'm not so sure...This is our first time staying in the Cabins. For those who have been there before, what would you do? Resort store or delivery? :confused3

It has been a while since I priced items at the store at FW, but if I remember right everything was very expensive compared to a regular grocery store. I know that I took a quick peak in 2010 just to see what they were running and most items were double what I would pay in a grocery store. Bread and 1/2 gallon of milk was about double I think as well as frozen items.

You will find the delivery grocers are cheap compared to the Trading Post prices on property. They will be higher than local grocers since you are paying for the convenience and delivery costs. I don't know where you are coming from, how you are traveling, or how much room you will have, but I recommend bringing as much as you can with you. Also you will find the food offerings at the Trading Posts are limited...mostly limited to convenience items and some frozen dinners. Of course there are places to eat on site, such as the HDDR or MBYBBQ, Trails End, and the snack bar at the main pool. And you will probably eat several meals at the Parks.

We used wegoshop.com. They will shop at the grocery store of your choice, so you'll pay regular store prices and only add on a delivery charge based on the amount of your order. Their website has links to each store's website so you can read the local ads and see if there's anything in particular you want to purchase due to the price. I didn't like the prices on Gardengrocer either, that's we went with wegoshop.

Last summer we placed an order for cereal, eggs, bagels, waffles, syrup, juice and milk for breakfast; ground meat, hot dogs, chicken breast for dinners on the grill; tomatoes, lettuce, onions, avocado, apples and bananas; granola bars and grits (buy one get one free). We like cooking at the cabin on the grill so we brought our own tools with us. You should also get foil, maybe storage plastic bags, and charcoal. Everything cost us under $200 for 9 days for 4 of us, we ate out some meals too, but we always were back at the cabin for swimming and dinner most days.

Eating from the trading post is the unhealthy way, generally. The best choices are eggs, bread, milk and cereal. Everything else is junk and snacks for the most part so we only get a treat there.

We just camped at the Fort for the first time this past march. I had similar questions about groceries. The store at the Fort is very limited, not much for dinners frozen hamburgers, frozen pizza and french fries. More choices for sandwiches like packaged lunch meat and cheese, bread, and Lays brand chips.
Also some canned goods like soup, vegetables, spaghetti sauce and pasta. Lots of drinks, Milk, OJ, Bottle water, Beer. We ended up ordering groceries for the better variety from Garden Grocer, pricing was about the same that the fort charged. But since this was vacation I didnt plan on cooking much, just bought some basics for breakfast and lunch

I just used the garden grocers in Jan and was very pleased with their services. I also compared their prices with the shop at the Fort menu that was is in the room and found that Fort Wilderness prices and selection were the same as the trading posts and were more than Garden Grocers. The GG also has a better selection on everything including produce and meat which you cannot get at the Fort. I did find that milk, pop, eggs, were the same. We will use them again.

I had a bad experience with Garden Grocer (produce items that were past their prime, frozen items that were freezer burned, groceries packed such that bread and other soft items were crushed & soggy from the frozen items), we tried WeGoShop & we've been loyal customers ever since!

They will shop at whatever store you choose, search for the best bargains, and pick out fresh produce, etc. as though they were shopping for themselves. Their delivery fee is slightly higher than GG, but well worth it in my opinion when you consider you are shopping the store sales rather than paying GG's inflated prices and the fact that you know everything you buy will be top notch & useable! Wouldn't use anyone else!
