Please pardon my ignorance. I am a newbie.
Some of the resorts have kitchens or kitchenettes. If a person where to fly in from out of country and take the Disney shuttle and stay on site only, is there per chance a way to get any groceries on site or delivered?

Bottom line do I bother with getting a kitchenette or is there no way for us to get groceries anyhow.....only left overs from restaurants?

Take a look here http://www.themouseforless.com/tripplanning/dining/gatheringgoodies.shtml and google "garden grocer disney". Garden grocer definitely delivers to Disney, but I understand they may only have a certain number of slots each week (thought someone posted that gg was full for their week already).

Also, check the very bottom of this lengthy page - it includes two delivery services and also indicates that Amazon will ship non-perishables (probably better than bringing much from outside the country).

I also seem to recall that UG said some limo service companies build in 30 minutes of grocery shopping on the way from the airport to the hotel. You could pack the non-perishables (boxes of hamburger helper, dry pasta, etc) and then you would only need to pick up things like eggs, hamburger, spaghetti sauce and snacks. The room they take up will surely be filled with souveniers on the trip home...

I have used gardengrocer.com four times and have been pleased with their service. You can also use wegoshop.com.

garden grocer is great!! anything you don't see on their website just call to add that item. (beer or alcohol) :thumbsup2

If you are staying on-property with a kitchen you have a couple of options.

1. Disney resorts will have some items in their counter service/gift shop but they are limited and pricey. The DVC resorts have more selection but are still pricey.

2. Use a grocery delivery service. The two most popular are gardengrocer.com and WeGoShop.com. I've only used WeGoShop.com and highly recommend them. Either will get anything you want/need and will deliver directly to your resort.

3. Use a towncar service from the airport that inclues a grocery stop.

Even if you are staying in a moderate or regular deluxe resort those rooms have small refrigerators so you could have beverages, snacks, etc. just no cooking. All of this can save $$.

Thanks so much for all your help and suggestions!

Do those small fridges in the studio's (AKV) have a freezer section to stash some ice cream bars and a box of waffles?

If it's a dorm size fridge, it will have a tiny freezer compartment. It's generally not a good idea to keep anything in that type for more than 2-3 days, and it's just about big enough for 2 smallish frozen pizzas. You could probably fit either the waffles OR some ice cream bars.

You can also try wegoshop.com

Marge is great & will go to the stores you want. You pay the cost of the groceries and a small delivery charge. I think it was $17 last November. There is extra charge for more than one store, maybe $5, but it was much cheaper than renting a car, taking a taxi or any of the other options I explored.

Have a great time!
