Is there anywhere to find a listing, or a general listing, of the food/supplies you can buy at the Screen Door General Store at the Boardwalk Villas? We are going with friends for a week and she wants to order a ton of stuff from gardengrocer. I am afraid she is getting too much and said to order less than what you think, then get anything you may need towards the end of the week at the General store, but can't provide her with a detailed listing of what you can get there (she is very anal about things). Any thoughts?

Thanks.

Jane

Not sure what they have at The Screen Door, but typically, all DVC Resorts offer "staple" items in the Gift Shop. But, also consider the Hess station directly across the street from BW. They have a lot of items and considerably cheaper that the Screen Door.

The shops at the DVC resorts are pretty pricey. We use them to pick up a small container of milk for coffee, a six pack of beer for DH (most expensive beer you will ever buy!) and that is about it. If you are going to do serious cooking in your villa, I'd definitely consider Garden Grocer or another delivery service. The selection is pretty limited and the prices are high at the Screen Door.

We find that for the few things we buy (milk, eggs, half and half, loaf of bread - we pack the stuff that will pack - cereal, sugar) the Screen Door is much cheaper than the delivery fee Garden Grocer will tack on.

There is a list on the dvcmember site, you may not be able to get to it (its behind a login, but it doesn't have an https:) - I'll try the link for you

Our first few DVC trips we did grocery stops - and always ended up with WAY TOO MUCH FOOD. Your mileage may, of course, vary.

If I were traveling with someone "very anal" about such things and had an extensive list, I'd have her rent a car and make her own grocery stop. When we shopped in Florida we discovered some brands were different from what we were used to. When we used a delivery service, we never got the quality of fruit or meat I would have picked out myself.

Do the Hess stations carry half gallons of milk and bread? Is it really expensive or should we take the time to run to Target/ Walmart? We are staying at POR and I remember there being a Hess station near there. We are driving down so we will have our car. TIA!

The general store on the Boardwalk has a variety of things to purchase. I was there in June and I remember they had frozen entrees - like Lean Cuisines - milk, oj, sandwich meats, cheese, pnut butter, jelly, cereals, breads, doughnuts, hot dogs. The 2 liter cokes were $4. I didn't think the bread was outrageous, but can't remember how much. We bought 1/2 gal of milk and I believe it was about $3.50. We also bought the Entenmanns doughnuts and they were the same price as the grocery store (I think 3.89).

I had considered placing an order from Garden Grocer and decided against it because my list had gotten so long and I realized that I didn't need all that stuff.
We were there for a week (family of 4). I packed a small bag with some quick things for breakfast and capri suns and a couple of Easy Mac N Cheese packets for the kids to eat for lunch.

For dinner one night, we had pizza from the boardwalk. It was very good and very inexpensive to feed the 4 of us. We also ate at the Big River Grille one night and it was very good and we thought the price was good.

We also bought refillable mugs for dh and me. You can fill them at the Bakery and at the pool.
