Is this set up the same way as Kali @ Animal Kingdom? How big are the drops? Are the drops like Kali or POTC? When's the best time to do this attraction?

Best time is first in the morning or get a fastpass - this line gets pretty long! It's pretty much the Kali ride at AK except the themeing is different. Have fun!

The drops aren't that big - my kids were scared witless by SM, but loved Grizzly and did it three times.

One certainty though is you will be soaked - wear a poncho if you don't won't to be dripping wet at the end of the ride.

Yep, you'll be so soaked you won't believe you could get that wet. The gift shop at the ride has ponchos you can buy. Side note - this shop has some unique items not found too many other places in the parks.

We actually thought Grizzly was more tame than Kali. We didn't get nearly as soaked even though we did get wet. Without giving any spoilers, some of the effects on Grizzly appear the same as Kali, but are more for looks than wetness.

Grizzly rafts don't have the middle area to keep your stuff dry but there are free lockers outside the que you can use for up to 2 hours. We thought this was a GREAT idea and wish they would bring it to WDW.

We were surprised that the line was only 25 mins long with a fast pass return time of only 30 mins in the future in the heat of the afternoon.

we thought that grizzly was better than Kali. More drops and we got more wet. I guess it depends on your experience on the ride which one was better. :flower:

True. For reference, we have ended up the wettest ones on the raft on both Kali and Grizzly and the wetness level was higher for us on Kali.

We buy ponchos at the Dollar Store for 50 cents each for this ride and then throw them out or give them away at the end of the ride. I hate going around in wet clothes for the next hour or two. I like Grizzly much better than Kali.:)

Kali River Rapids is very pretty with a bit of a story and the one hill but the rapids part is the mellowest weakest rapids I have been on.
Grizzly has much better rapids and some good rock works, a couple of caves and two drops but isn't quite as pretty though the themes are very hard to compare. In terms of a rapids ride if there were no themes I would choose Grizzly. It is simply more fun.

GRR is not a "plugged in" fast pass location. Meaning you can hold a fastpass for another attraction and still get a fast pass for GRR. On our last trip (two weeks ago) we stopped and picked up fast pass for Soaring, walked over to GRR and got that fast pass. The boys played in the wilderness area while we waited for the fast passes to "ripen" .

Unfortuanately I can't ride GRR any more without use of poncho (and must wrap my legs well in the plastic), I developed a nasty reaction to the water. My legs were red, inflamed, and extremely itchy by the end of the evening on our last day and continued to be a problem for two days after we got home. WAHHHH. This happened one other time but thought it was due to wet fabric rubbing on my legs in the cool fall evening. I wore shorts this time, dried out very quickly in the hot sun.. scratch , scratch , scratch....
