We have never been and I really want to go our upcoming trip. We do have two kids (4 and 6). I'm slightly worried about how wet we will get. I don't want kids whining because they are walking around soaked. I know we can bring a change of clothes. But is that necessary? How wet will we really get? Any other tips about this topic?

BTW, we will be there the last week of Sept, so I know it will be warm, but not sure how quickly we would air dry....????

Buy ponchos at your local Dollar store and take them to the park with you that day. Make sure you store your valuables (camera, purse, cell phone) in the lockers they provide for free right across from the FP machines.

I don't remember how quickly I dried off, but I do remember feeling soaked - especially after I rode it a second time...

It was my own fault, I got lucky the first time and stayed vaguely dry so thought I'd go again as there was basically no queue. Big mistake :lmao:

Oh, Thats a great tip about the lockers! Thanks DangerMouse! I didn't realize they were there.

First time I rode it I got soaked. I was so wet that I refused to ride it again for a good while! lol :rotfl: I watched while the rest of the family rode it. Now I either ride it & accept the fact that I may (or may not!) get drenched OR I wear a poncho like DangerMouse suggested. It's too good of a ride to miss out on!!! :thumbsup2

i got DRENCHED
a person told me to sit in the middle seats.
which i did.

it wasnt too bad until the very end where the geyers spew!!!
i took a direct hit and i looked like a drenched rat. flat wet hairsprayed soaked sticky head,, and i still had to walk around the park looking like that!!!
not a happy camper and only did it once.
next time i would buy a poncho cuz it was a fun ride
have fun
vicky

This is exactly what happened to DD and I.

Denim + Water = :sad2:

I tend to avoid that ride now.

That is exactly what happened to me too! I sat in the middle away from the door and got moderately wet until the end and then I got hit by the geyer. I was a really hot day so it wasn't too bad and I had worn my hair in a braid with a headband so I was saved somewhat but it took awhile to really dry out!

It is a fun ride but you have to go into it thinking you are going to get wet not Splash Mountian web but drenched! :scared1: I would either ride with a poncho or take dry clothes if you don't like to walk around in wet, sticky clothes.

i sat in the middle and got drenched by the waterfall, a year ago i went on it wearing kahakis,- A DON'T!!!!!! enough said:eek:

I also, got absolutely drenched. It looked like I had been hit with a firehose :)
I think, like most people, it was ok until the end; then those geysers in the middle of the stream got me with a direct hit. My husband thought it was the funniest thing. :rotfl2: The rest of my family was only moderetly wet.

I learnt on a seaword ride not to wear jeans (I had wet jeans the whole day) :sad2:

We go in Winter and I did get soaked but I will NOT give up this ride. :cool1:It is one of my favourite rides in the park. I am happy to look like a wet rat to get to go on this ride.
Before TSM was around and rushing to the back of the park for FP was necessary we one morning wore swimming gear into the park to ride it 3 times in a row and we watched each time the other riders getting wetter than us who were prepared.:lmao::lmao:
The trepidation on their faces once they saw we were in swim gear was priceless:rotfl2:

So yes....you will probably get soaked...but it is so worth it.

We are staying at the GC - isn't Grizzly River Run really near this hotel? I was thinking that we could just ride it a few times and then go back to our room to change???

Yep, that's one of the BEST benefits of staying at the GCH. The private entrance is directly across from GRR! :thumbsup2

The one time we rode it, this is exactly what we did. Entered the park through GC specifically to ride GRR, then went back to our room to change.

We may do the same thing with our daughter next week!

GRR is one of our family's favorite rides. There's fun, laughs, camaraderie (unless you are a family of 8 you will likely be joined by strangers), and large splashes of water.

A way to just about guarantee that you'll get soaked is to giggle at someone else who just got soaked, by the way. Insta-karma seems to live on that ride. :upsidedow

There are also little streams of water as you're going up the, um, up part, you know, the ratchety thing you have to go up on most rides that are up high. I *always* am hit in the face (or chest), and I *always* forget about them.

I've never even passed by the ride that I didn't see some absolutely drenched people standing nearby...it's a good warning system! :)

Anyway, some people on some rides on GRR don't get wet at all. Other people or the same people on other times on it get splashed, others get completely soaked. Some people get a totally wet head, others get their bottoms soaked. etc etc. The raft turns around, even on some of the downhills. If you're sitting at the "door" area you'll get water sloshing in, so your leg facing the opening can get drenched.

I once had a dry downhill moment, and then some random fluke caused a bit of water to hit something, and an arc of water came straight towards me, missed my face and went right down the torn bit of my poncho to go right in the middle of, well, my bra. COLD! Shocking! Funny as anything, too. :)

On our last trip, my son and husband went 5 times in a row one day (I went 4), and we all went 5 times in a row the next day. After 5 times, you're really wet.

I do generally wear a poncho. I invest in an 8 dollar Disney poncho...they are nice and thick, and they last quite awhile. I did recently have to replace mine b/c it was so ripped. Some say you can take a torn poncho and get a free replacement, but I figure that I got good service from my 8 bucks and i'm not going to work the system.

On our first trip (not going on GRR) we bought the dollar store ponchos. Nasty! They are thin and clingy, they feel like saran wrap. Not a good feeling. And we re-use those anyway, as we are recycling types...even though they are thinner, they were harder to refold and put into a bag for future use. The thick Disney ones were much easier to refold.

I haven't seen the geysers on in probably a year. :( I know they were on in May '08, but we went December, I went in March, we went this May and then in late June...no geysers. Don't know what's up with that! But the geysers add an extra soaking moment, b/c they are incredibly unpredictable. The actual water might be on a schedule, but you don't know where your raft will be when it "goes", and don't know what the water is going to do. Just when you think you're safe.....

Here's a tip (other than "wear a poncho", which I completely agree with ;)):

Lean back in your seat. Naturally, you will want to lean forward and hold the rail, but your back will get soaked! Not too much fun to have cold water pouring down your back! Your front is going to get wet either way, but if you lean back in your seat, you can keep your back relatively dry.

Good luck and have fun! :goodvibes

I leaned forward when I wore my khakis and ended up showing my undies-ot a good thing to wear. And last year we got stuck on the beginning ramp going up, in the middle and we were sideways, very uncomfortable!

It's hard to say how wet you'll get. It could be anywhere from a few drops to downright soaking/dripping wet. If you don't want to be soaking wet, you should take precautions, such as wearing a poncho, bringing a change of clothes, or riding at the end of the day.

I thought I heard from someone on this board that there was a clothes dryer in the bathrooms near GGR. Is that true?
