grinchmas?

Universal isn't Disney. I watch the boards all the time and hear people crying about when are the hours coming out for November, etc. Universal has their hours out a year at a time. You don't have to wait for months to find out when they will be closed. The calendar is done yearly. Universal doesn't announce the dates for Grinchmas, Halloween Horror Nights, and Mardi Gras until a few months before the event.

The reason is because very few people plan their vacation specifically to attend Grinchmas. Many people plan their Disney vacation specifically for an event like Mickey's Christmas. Disney's events are seperately ticketed events while most of Universal are not (except for HHN and Rock the Universe.) Universal events are included in the regular park ticket. It is just an extra event that is free for guests not somthing that is planned months in advance that people have to purchase tickets for. Since there is no need to purchase tickets for Grincmas, there is not a pressing need to announce the dates. The overwhelming majority of guests who travel to Universal during Christmas know nothing about Grincmas or the Macy's parade and it is a pleasant surprise.

Well said, we love Universal at Christmas!

as his lair is part of the new ride opening in '06 (it looks as though we'll finally be finishing the long in limbo Sylvester McMonkey McBean ride!). :bounce:

Really?? It's finally opening? Details!?

We will be at Universal from Dec. 31-Jan 4. Will Grinchmas be running while we are there? We've never been to Universal before, so we're newbies. We planned this trip out of the blue (I sold my car, and had some money burning a hole in my pocket - bills can wait), so I'm trying to learn all I can about Universal. There's so much more info available on Disney. Anyway, can someone explain what Grinchmas is, and what our chances are of seeing it while we're there? TIA

Grinchmas will be running during that time. It's included in your admission to IOA.
Basically, Seuss Landing becomes Who-Ville. There are whos running around, and the Grinch has a lair where you can meet him and have pictures taken with him. There is Christmas music playing and there are decorations everywhere. The whole attitude of SL is very festive. There is also a short play a few times a day that tells the story of the Grinch. The last play of the day is also when they light the large Grinchmas tree.

Would decorations be up and/or Christmas music be playing a week before the 9th, ie around December 4th, thats we I will be there. Or does everything get put up overnight on the 8th?

Decorations usually start going up Thanksgiving weekend. Christmas music usually starts about then too.
