Grinchmas from a FW Cabin over New Year's?

We have a cabin in FW from 12/29-1/3. We might attend the 12/30 night in MK and then plan on 12/31 in DHS. My 13 yo is obsessed with Grinch. Would you try to swing over to Universal for a day on 1/1 or 1/2? We have done WDW a lot (though never at NYE) and it is home for sure. But, we have not been to Universal at all. So Harry Potter and Grinch would be pretty cool if it is doable from the cabin. I am just wondering if that needs to be its own separate trip at Universal. We can't wait for FW!
