Patty,
You might want to use our strategy that we use when we go camping (depends on the number of people in your party). It might work for you at the Fort.
I got back from the beach this weekend and used this strategy. And it is that the day we arrive, I buy all kinds of meat and grill it in one big cookout marathon and then refridgerate it and heat it in the microwave each subsequent day.
For example, we got to the beach on Monday (Memorial Day) and it was beautiful. The state park had a grill on-site so I got a big bag of Match Lite charcoal and groceries at Wal-Mart and cooked in one long session:
- shrimp and grouper (locally caught) for Monday night.
- 3 lbs of hamburgers for Tuesday night.
- all beef hot dogs for Wednesday night.
- chicken breasts and thighs (all boneless) for Thursday night.
Since you'll have a microwave and a fridge this shouldn't be a prolem in the cabins. We added some microwaveable flavored rice, potato salad and macaroni salad from the
Walmart deli, instant mashed potatoes, chips, etc. I have a crew of 5 (me, DW, DS16, DS14, DD11) who eat heartily so it saved us a fortune versus eating out. At Disney the savings would be even more substantial!
So yes, use the grill, cook a couple days worth of meats, and then enjoy the savings during the next couple days. You've got that great kitchen in the cabins (we love staying in the cabins but they are $$$) so use it to your advantage. Oh, and Mousekeeping will do your dishes for you if you leave in the morning with a sink full of dirties.
Enjoy and good luck!
