How far are the grills from the pool at AKV Kidani? Ideally we'd like to grill one day for lunch and eat by the pool but not if it's a headache.

And they take charcoal?

:thanks:

The grills are over by the tennis courts. It would be too far for me to consider. Other DVC resorts are better for grilling while enjoying the pool.

How far is too far? We won't be pressed for time and we're able bodied. I don't want to order the hotdogs, brats, and buns from the grocer if it's going to be a pain. Does the pool bar at AKV serve lunch food? We've also got 3 teens and a tween to help carry stuff to and from the grill. :thumbsup2

We're grilling a night at the THV which should be easy as they're right down the steps. :cloud9:

It is so convenient to barbecue at THV, we did, too!

You're at Kidani, right, because it would be out of the question for me if you were at Jambo. Able bodied people, well motivated because they like what they'll be carrying, at Kidani, maybe. This is absolutely a guess, 1/5 of a mile from the pavillion to the pool...but where will you be at the pool? You may need a key to open the pool's gate. If you like grilling so much, I would send people to cook, then all join at the cooking area to eat. That would be my suggestion.

I hope someone else chimes in, you are getting advice from someone who has not done it, but has thought about it. Our DGC are 7,8,9...my DSon would be willing to do ANYTHING for us, but I've not asked him to do it, it just seemed not worth the effort, and I love hamburgers on the grill!

I'm looking forward to out big tri tip BBQ pre MNSSHP! I think it'll be a perfect way to begin the evening. Do the THV have grilling utensils or do I need to get them from guest services? I'm making my garlic roast red potatoes too and Cesar salad. I'm silly excited.

1/5 of a mile doesn't sound too bad. That's a good idea to send a few over to grill and then meet them. I just don't want to lose my pool chairs. I'm figuring if we're gone 30 minutes, our stuff won't get moved. I know how heated people get with saving their pool spots.

:thumbsup2 I love burgers and brats on the grill. The kids love hot dogs. I'm debating on doing burgers too but dogs and brats are just so easy. DH has to get all Gordon Ramsey on me when he makes burgers. He's a nut when it comes to meats he can doctor up before cooking. :lmao: It's an entire process. Love him but sometimes I just want a small plain burger with no juice, garlic, spices, or homemade mayo all over it.

Anyone have a pool day at AKV Kidani and grill? How do it go? Too far? Headache? :thanks:

Assuming this link works: http://binged.it/U0DaCF you can see the tennis courts at the bottom of the map, the pool near the top.

If you zoom in near the tennis courts you will see a large wooden umbrella-like structure. There are picnic tables underneath that structure and the grills are right in that area as well but you can't make them out in the satellite image.

ETA: Although the Osceola Parkway takes you right into the AKL/AKV resort area, it does not actually pass through the resort, as indicated on this map. They show it going through the resort, into the pool area and passing through the pool bar!

:worship: Thanks! This is so helpful. It looks like it goes right through. Interesting. I have no clue how far this walk really is but it looks like its miles away. :crazy2: Rethinking my plan.........

Using the scale information on the map, I think Bobbi's estimate of 1/5 of a mile is about right.

Doing some basic math here and assuming that someone walking from the grill area to the pool carrying a platter full of food would probably walk no faster than 2 mph, it would take 6 minutes to transport the food from the grill to the pool area. If the food was in a sealed container (so no risk of things falling off the plate on the way) they could probably make the trip in 4 minutes.

Kidani, where the grills are, next to the tennis court by the little pavilion, is not condusive to "happy" grilling!

#1. No one is going out there with you, at least no one who travels with me! #2. Heaven forbid you forget something! #3. Every soul on a bus, in a car, see's you out there grilling as they pass by! #4. most importantly, I don't want to be carrying my un-cooked/then grilled meats up & down the elevator, out of the parking lot, way, way across the road , then back again to my villa!

If I cook it out there, we're eating it out there!

OKW-Villa & BBQ at Turtle Pond, by the pool! So much easier!

That's not bad at all. :thumbsup2 Thank you for breaking that down for me. I lack the ability to process spacial relations.

We've done that too and loved it but we'll be at AKV so that's not an option. ;) We'll grill and bring it to the pool. It's only brats and dogs so it's not like we'll have copious amounts of anything spilling or making a mess. A piece of foil and some tongs should suffice. Heck, even a plastic fork would work.
By this time in the trip we'll need a decent dog, I'm sure. I think Disney hot dogs are terrible. Nathan's rock!

1/5 of a mile is nothing. And the people in their cars and busses will be jealous when they see DH's mad grilling skills. :rotfl2: We'll bring them back to the pool to eat. I'll have the chips, etc there already. Plus the beer will be at the pool. We must have beer.

Thank you everyone! :goodvibes

At least at OKW, they all carry something down for me, including drinks & snacks and we swim & make a happy hour out of it!

Unfortunately, I'm the queen of the grill, and in 95 degree weather, I'm not grilling across the street, by the side of the road! So, your husband will have to negotiate the charcoal bag, the tools, the food, the 45-60 minutes for the charcoal to be hot and then grill - You're a lucky girl, he's a keeper! :worship:

Matchlite. :thumbsup2 He's very easy going. He also gets extremely sick of Disney food. And I agree, I'm very lucky. But so is he. :teeth:

And I think a plastic fork is the only tool needed for hotdogs. Everything else can stay at the pool. He's a triathlete. He doesn't scare easily. I'm 110% positive he can negotiate 2 unoped packages of dogs, cook them, and find his way back. If not, at least he'll have something to eat and a great story to tell. I'll make sure he has a beer for each way of the journey. We'll probably live on the edge and I'll join him to the grill and we'll leave the kids unattended at the pool. I also think they'll make it. :lmao:

We'll swim all day. It'll be happy hours!

You've spent a lot of time preparing for this vacation. It's going to be great! I'm pretty sure you're going to work things out. Hot dogs/brats on the grill are special!

Bobbi:thumbsup2

I think so too. Thanks Bobbi. :goodvibes

just an FYI/ there aren't a heck of a lot of tables at the Kidani pool. you kinda need t get there early to stake one out. unless you don'tcare about a table, and just want to eat at the lounge chairs.

Tell your DH to keep an eye out for alligators while he is grilling. We saw one last time we stayed at KV. The kids were all playing shuffleboard, and we looked over by the pond and there is an alligator lying there!

I hope you called or told a CM!

Thank you for the heads up. I'm an early riser and love to have my coffee by the pool. I'll make sure to get there early. :thumbsup2

:faint: Yikes. What did you do?

::yes:: This!

What does Disney do with them?

It's my understanding that they relocate them. Once they're a certain size they are relocated much further away. We've seen them take care of one that was in the riverboat waters at MK. That's what we were told.

So we shouldn't add them to the menu? ;) J/K PETA peeps.

Wonder if they sedate them? How big was the one you saw?
