I use a charcoal grill. Can you tell me how to grill corn on the cob?

I loved grilled corn on the cob!
I pull the husks back enough to remove all the silk, then rewrap the corn up in the husk. I cook it for maybe 10- 15 minutes, turning it a lot.

We do it two different ways:

One is we husk and wash the ears and put them in a tin foil "bag". We add butter, some spices and a few icecubes (so they don't dry out or burn). Then put them on the grill like anything else. Probably 35-40 minutes depending on how hot the coals are.

The other is to put them directly on the coals, with the husk still on. Soak them in water for 30-60 minutes beforehand. Some people carefully peel the husks back and remove the "hair" before they cook them, but I never bother and they turn out fine. They probably take about 30 minutes to cook too, once the outside is all blackened they should be done.

Do you moisten the corn in any way, like with butter or oil?

My mouth waters just thinking about it.

Mmmm... corn on the cob, steaks, mashed potatoes.

Who's having dinner at my house tonight? :teeth:

I do almost the same thing.
Except, I put some butter, salt, and pepper inside the husk before closing the husk back up. Then wrap it in tin foil.

I forgot to add that I do soak them first, usually just put them in a pot of water while the coals get hot.
Ok, I need directions to your house....I'll even furnish the corn.

My mom always soaks them in sugar water for about an hour before roasting them. I know some people soak them in salt water, but mom insists this makes the kernels tough.

Then you toss em on the grill, husks and all. After roasting, you peel back the husks. Leave the husks on and use them as a handle. Roll your corn on a stick of butter until drippy, and salt liberaly.

YUMMM this is making me crave more grilled corn. I cut the potatoes w/the french fry maker and wrap them in foil w/butter and garlic salt... sounds like a great dinner :thumbsup2

if yo can get it right off the field you don't even need to soak it. (friend of mine grows their own it was outstanding!). Husks on throw on grill 15-20 minutes add butter salt and pepper.

A chili powder butter makes a neat twist.

As with many things, I think grilled corn-on-the-cob works best if you "cheat". That is, do 80-90% of the cooking off the grill (microwave, steamer, whatever), then throw the corn on the grill to top off the cooking. You get all the grill flavor this way, with much more control over the actual cooking.

Paula Deen did this on her show and I thought it sounded a bit strange until I tried it....now it is one of my favorites!

Husk the corn and brush with mayonaise. Roll the corn in parmesean cheese. Sprinkle with salt, pepper and a bit of chili powder. (Of course I bet you could even mix the spices in with the cheese and do it all in one step, but this is how Paula did it) Wrap in foil and toss on the grill for 20-30 minutes.

It is totally different and totally yummy.

You definitely have to come. I got to the store too late for corn and I didn't feel like driving all over the country to find some.

Take the first exit off the highway, go straight through 4 lights, turn right at the next, then a left, then a right, and there you are. :teeth:

We never soak our corn before throwing it on the grill. I was wondering why all of you guys do until someone said something about getting it fresh and not needing to soak it.

Now I understand because we get our corn from neighboring farmers (occassionally grow it ourselves). It's usually been picked the day we buy it (I sometimes have to wait while they go pick more, lol) so I guess that's why we can just put it on the grill, husks and all. Take it off after about 20-30 minutes and it's tender, juicy and delicious.

Rual living has it's share of aggrivating stuff (long commute to anywhere comes to mind!) but fresh veggies is a definite bonus.
