Hi - coming back to the fort at the beginning of September with our new (used) tent trailer and staying in a pop up/tent site. We only have a sink but we wanted to ask if we should bring a bucket to collect our gray water. Sooo excited about going back and this time we don't have to sleep on the ground plus we have air conditioning!!

its pretty much illegal to dump grey water on the ground anywhere. plus i dont want to smell what u had for dinner water logged.

if your pop up didn't come with it's gray water container and connector hose i think you could easily order one online before your trip.

We had one of these for our last camper Thetford SmartTote but a bucket would work too. You would just have to empty it more often.

We have one very similar http://www.barkermfg.com/totealongs.html and use it when we go to CG's without sewer hookups. Both of the designs are nice because you can hook it on the TV and wheel it to the dump station. My DW affectionately calls it the pooper (but the other word) on wheels.

A bucket will do, then empty in commode or laundry sink.

Yep, the Fort DOES NOT have a dump station. The Fort's official response for disposing of waste water in the partial hookup sites is to call the front desk and they will direct you to the closest empty site to dump, but it is really just easier to use a container that you can handle by hand and take any waste water to a comfort station and dump in a toilet.

I would be hesitant to use an open bucket due to possibly creating a mosquito environment right next to your camper. Before they came out with some of these fancier containers, I purchased a 5 gallon plastic gas container. Ran the hose down into it and put material around the opening to seal it off. Worked great.

You might consider "Mosquito Dunks" if you're in an area that is prone to mosquitos. We use them in our rain barrels. You can get them at Home Depot and Lowes. While they are expensive (the pack of 6 runs about $11) you would only need a small piece in a gray water bucket for a pop-up camper. You can easily break them up.

It takes days for mosquito eggs to mature into full grown mosquitos. Unless it is a really huge bucket, I doubt that it would be there long enough for this to happen.

Wow - I never knew that we had so much to learn about gray water. :goodvibes Thanks for all the info - we're new to the world of pop-ups so and and all advice is appreciated!

This is some terrific information! I belong to a users group on Yahoo (clkelley knows which one I am referring to) where a simple post on gray water deteriorated into such a fight the moderators now delete any post mentioning gray water at all. Basically name calling between the 'let it run on the ground camp' to the 'must be in a hermetically sealed container suitable for the storage of kryptonite!':rotfl2:

Makes a lot of sense to keep this stuff where it belongs, off the ground.:thumbsup2

I've stayed in Partial hook-up sites with my pop-up and it is no trouble to find an empty site in a nearby Full or Premium loop (especially in the morning when people check out) and dump a bucket or container.

Our pop-up has a Thetford casette for the potty which I would only dump in a sewer hookup myself. But a bucket of gray water (which comes from the sink drain) is only dish water and it would be okay to dump in the comfort station laundry room in the deep sink (hey, I washed thanksgiving pots and pans in that sink so I know how big/deep it is).

Skeeters from the bucket would be the LEAST of your problems when it comes to skeeters if you are there during skeeter season :scared1:. But please don't pour gray water on the ground anywhere and dispose of any "gray" liquid in a respectful manner.
