Day 1: September 16, 2009
Last night as I was tossing and turning in my Twin-XL bed, I couldn’t stop thinking about the scale at the gym the other day. According to it, I weigh 191 pounds. At first I thought that couldn’t possibly be correct! After all, I lost 10 pounds over the summer thanks to camp. But now I’m at college.
I go to SUNY Geneseo. If you don’t know where that is, let me enlighten you. It’s about ½ hour south of Rochester, NY. It is known as New York’s public honors college. I’m studying speech-language pathology. This is also a campus built on a hillside. It’s a small campus, so I walk everywhere and I get exercise that way, and I live on the 4th floor of my dorm so I’m constantly running up and down 2+ flights of stairs.
Anyway, I digress. My friend Marissa and I went to the gym on Sunday. We did mostly weights/resistance on the Nautilus machines and checked out the cardio room. It was then that I stepped on the scale and saw the dreaded number. “Something’s got to give”, I thought to myself.
So here I am now. A few years ago my mom and I were on the LA Weight Loss plan. I t worked for her, but she’s gained it back. It wasn’t so successful for me, but at 15 years old I wasn’t too concerned. In high school, two comments stick with me. My nasty neighbor once said to me “You’re kinda big for 14, aren’t you?” and one time I was taking a midterm and sat next to a kid who clearly didn’t want me there. I didn’t move and he said something about “Oh great, I have to sit next to the fat kid.” WHAT?!?!
I’m 18 years old, 5’6 ½” and apparently 191 pounds. I’m hoping to lose about 50 of that. My plan is to go to the gym on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday or Sunday for a ½ hour of weights and a ½ hour of cardio. I also plan to eat more fruits and veggies, eat less sugar and drink more water, with the occasional glass of juice or pop (soda/coke-depending on where you’re from!).
So here I go, fellow WISH Disers. This was the first place I thought of for support. It’s Wednesday, so I won’t be going to the gym today, but I am starting with the healthy eating. I hope you’ll follow along with me, and comments are always welcome!

Hi! I'm actually from right outside of Buffalo, so we are neighbors lol:thumbsup2
I did start reading your journal and I wish you the best of luck too!

Good luck to you!

Thanks!

Well, Wednesday started out okay. I had a muffin and apple juice for breakfast. I had celery sticks with ranch dressing and pineapple for lunch. I had a few bites each of chicken parm, corn, potatoes, a quesadilla and a slice of pizza and a small bowl of soup. However, I also had a 3 Musketeers for a mid morning snack, peanut butter pie with dinner and a slice of carrot cake for a late night snack. But I guess it's a journey and since I'm so used to sugar I need to wean my self slowly. Yesterday wasn't much better, but I'm at least going with the "eat when I'm hungry, stop when I'm full" motto.

I did go to the gym yesterday! I went and did the Nautilus machines for 20 minutes. I was going to go do cardio but this guy that hit me with a heavy cardboard mail tube the night before was working the desk there, so I didn't. We got that resolved though so now I can go without any issue.

I' m probably going to the gym tomorrow with a friend again. I'm also volunteering at a horse rescue shelter for 2 hours on Sunday mornings. I know lifting hay, mucking stalls and walking with the horses is good exercise, so hopefully that will help too!

Here's to day 3:wizard:
