Hey all, brand new member here. Been lurking for a while since I started listening to the DIS unplugged thought I'd join up with all you friendly folks. :cool1:

Anyway here's my question... (yes a question in my inaugural post, how rude of me)

My birthday is in October and usually the wife and I don't do anything special for it but this year I decided to push our vacation back from our usual summer get-a-way (her birthday) to coincide with my birthday. We've always booked value resorts, even for our honeymoon (all star movies) and this time was to be no exception and we booked Pop Century as we really enjoyed it last stay. But I got to thinking and realized it was my birthday and I should give myself a present so I upgraded us to Port Orleans Riverside as a suprise to her (yes even on my bday she gets the surprise). Anyway, does anyone think I made the wrong decision? We love POP but I thought this might be more romantic, plus a change of scenery. I asked for the mansion area. Like I said it'll be our first time in anything but a value resort.

Also I have seen lots of good threads here with faqs etc for POP and Coronado etc but couldn't find one for Port Orleans if there is one can you link me in the right direction? Thanks for all your input, and again, hello all. :cool2:

:welcome: to the dis! Lot's of fun and loads of information for you here.
Not rude at all, wait until you've posted a really controversial question-that's when you'll see rude. ;)
Anyway I love to resort hop, gives me a reason to keep coming back to WDW, so no I don't think you've made a bad decision. I think Disney does a good job with all levels of their resorts and so far, I've never really had a bad stay.
It's been a very long while since we stayed at PO in fact last time we were there it was called Dixie landings. I think it is a beautiful resort, very romantic so you and DW should love it.

Thanks for the welcome. We're from Canada and are driving down because airfare from here is rediculous this year and the nearest airport is so far away we may as well drive that distance towards Disney anyway. So with the money we saved I figured it was time for a boost up to moderate. Now that you mention Dixie Landings I think I stayed there on a very brief stay years before I was married and enjoyed it, though short of a restaurant with a boat in it I don't remember much... lol

I think you will love it there.;) ...BETTER then POP!:goodvibes

Heres your link

BTW....WELCOME to the dis!...
I think you will love it here too!:thumbsup2

Lots of great info to go through there thanks. In pictures it seems like there is much less "Disney" here then the values in terms of character presence, are there any character staues etc? :wizard:

POR is beautiful. We stayed there twice and loved it. You must try the banana stuffed french toast at Boatwrights.:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

Oh wow that sounds awesome, is it just banana ones? I'm feeling better and better about this decision all the time. I've been looking over pages and pages of info and think I'm really gonna love the resort. I did come across some seemingly mixed info though, do all rooms come with fridges or just aligator bayou.

That what my DH likes most about POR. Its a nice relaxing resort where he can forget that he's at Disney.:rotfl:

We will be at POR for the 2nd time in just a couple of weeks. We stayed at ASSports before that and loved it. We like the resort SCREAMING disney. But when we stayed at POR, it still has the Disney feel but in a more relaxing and romantic way, if that makes sense. It is nice to come back from the craziness of the parks and relax. We love the boatride to DTD and the horse drawn carriage ride. You will love it!

I am new at this and I CANT find where to post my own thread... someone told me to go to the upper left hand part of the screen where it says start new thread but i cant find that anywhere!..
someone please help!
THANKS.

We have stayed at POR twice....once while it was still Dixie Landings...I think it's a very beautiful, lush resort. We didn't have a frig in the room either time, but also didn't request one. We stayed in Alligator Bayou (I believe), very near the food court and a bus pick up. It's our second favorite resort next to WL.

Have a wonderful time and Happy Birthday -- to you BOTH!!
