This is a follow up to my original poll, of about a month ago, before suprising discoveries of Super-Owners, Mega-Morphers, and shill bidders.

Also for what to some, seems like a McCarthy era witch hunt, with gleeful 'outtings' and public lynchings.

So in the past month have your feelings to this subject changed?

This Poll is for DVC Owners only.

Inspired by the recent changes to MS call-in rules, and the heated debate over the pros & cons of renting......

The ORIGINAL question.......

Simply put, "Do you Rent your Points?"

Feel free to post a detailed explanation!

Cheers,

-Tony

Looks like I'm the first responder to this poll...kinda cool in a weird (and irrelevant) sort of way...

I picked "other" because even w/all your categories you didn't "find" mine, which is "I'll certainly rent points if I get to a 2-year period (required to eliminate banking as an option to avoid losing points) where I'm not going to use my points; and/or if I hit a financial "crunch" where renting out a reservation (or two) could help get me out of a "money hole"...

I guess that's too long to put in your poll, isn't it?

Bottom line: I like the option of being able to rent points, altho the trust involved if I had to go thru "the boards" to do it (assuming none of my relatives/friends would want them at this theoretical time in my future) makes me wonder if I would actually try it...in the first 3 months of the reality of my being a DVC member, however, it appears I'll never have any extra points to rent...I'm already into my 2008 allocation (for planning purposes; I can't actually make my November 2007 ressie until Feb because I need my 2008 points to do it) and I just joined this past June!

I'm afraid to read what I've just typed ...it's early in the morning and I'm not sure I was coherent!

Anyway...my vote is for "I would consider renting points, but don't actually plan to do so. I would vote to retain the option of being able to do so."

Thanks for asking!

I picked regularly because I do so periodically. I likely AVERAGE about 1-2 per year over the years but some years it is none and others it might be 3 or 4. Hopefully after our Dec trip this will change and I'll pare down my amount of DVC points significantly.

I have only rented out points once, because I am fairly new. I hope that renting continues in the future, because that is what makes the program flexible. If I need to rent points out one year because I can't make it, or because I want to go on a cruise instead, that I want the luxury of being able to do that.

I have never rented out my points - but I'm very glad I can.
I have quite a few times rented others points (as I never wish to borrow my own) and I'm very glad I can do that!

Well - we need something for entertainment while standing around the BBQ grills at OKW ! :dance3:

I voted NO but glad it's allowed. Will need to rent or transfer to bring family along as I have limited points right now.

I think if they fix the points morphing it will correct some problems.

I still have a problem with booking prime time just for the sake of renting it for a profit but thats DVD's problem to fix. Also using forms of advertisment (web-sights ,E-bay ,DIS ) is my understanding of a commercial renter.I would rather see someone solicite some points and have that booked instead of the other way around.

The shills and deciet are what really had me in a tif with the other thread. It ruins it for everyone but thats the NET you really never truely know do you.

So renters keep renting rentees keep booking as I have no power but a small voice and thats not much.

I just love the term mega-morphers, it could be a Sci-Fi block-buster summer hit.!! :rotfl2:

Anyway, I voted that I never rented points, but do like the option.

Have never rented out ours but my SIS has a couple times-they seem to have too many (dont go as often as us and got cancer once) so I'm glad it helped them out. I also have rented one time from a DVC owner and it was a great trip at XMAS.

I have rented to cover the costs of a non Disney cruise :guilty: a trip to DL(used some points for the rooms and the rental income for the tickets and plane fares), and this year have to cover some of the MFs now that I am retired and part of the DP for the Sept trip. I am now is borrowing mode so won't be renting for awhile. This ability to rent out some of the points is one of the reasons I purchased so that I don't have to lose out if something happens that I can't make a trip a year or two. I may end up selling my 150 pt SSR contract and getting a smaller add on at VAKL if they happen soon and will then have fewer points so probably won't be renting more than every couple of years.

I have rented a few times, but most of what I rented went to members who needed points to get a certain ressie.

Tony... I noticed this in your sig:
PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE!
Do NOT believe a word I post. I believe life is far too short, and far too serious, for me not to have fun on an anonymous website. Everything I post is meant to be funny or clever or cute. However, you may see it as lame, immature, childish, feeble, stupid or sarcastic, that's okay too!

Sorta combats that whole, "Trust me, I'm a doctor" thing, eh? :goodvibes

Actually my Vascular Lab Friend, I don't trust many Doctor's either. While they are much more trustworthy than Lawyers, Politicians, and those acursed DVC Owners who rent, I still don't trust them.

BTW, you can *ALWAYS* trust a frog. Princely or common variety!

As to my sig, it is an attempt to forestall TPTB's banning of me from the DISboards, Since it does not appear to be working, I'm getting a personality-lobotomy next Tuesday. (Not from eBay, however).

Isn't That So Much More Annoying Than Capitalizing The First Letter Of Every Word?

I'd rather have a bottle in front of me, than a frontal lobotomy! (works best when spoken outloud)

:grouphug: :dance3: :hourglass

I posted that I have rented once, because....well, I have rented once!!! ;)

I'm glad we can rent (it came in "handy"). I wish DVC had fixed their computer system rather than limiting transfers for everyone...that's very bad on their part. 1 transfer per year makes "points collecting" as a hobby a LOT less fun!! (That's okay...I didn't really NEED all the points I had)

I think the "mob mentality" without proof is really BAD!!! I keep reminding myself, weak minds shout "Liar, liar, pants on fire" when, in a disagreement they cannot think of anything cogent to say.

I guess we can all say something for sure, "The times have been VERY interesting." :rolleyes1

Thanks for the poll, Tony!!

LOL .. this is exactly what I would have answered!

But since that's not a choice, I voted "not yet, but plan to."

I voted the second choice. I have never rented out points, but I don't see any way that DVC could completely forbid renting unless they took extra points back on a rental basis. Other timeshares that don't allow private renting do rent the unit back and pay the owner a small fee if they can't use their "week". Of course, the DVC usage is quite different than that.

I responded that I have rented several times. But only to family and very close friends, and NOT for proffit, but as a way for them to have a Disney trip at a very good price.

Don't rent, but like that the option is there for those who need to find a use for stranded points or those who are short points. Heck that could be me some day.

Tony, I didn't follow the original thread to the end to know what classifies as a "Super-Owner, Mega-Morpher or shill bidders" are, but I'm curious. Feel free to repost those definitions! :confused3
