greenban EXCLUSIVE: AKL DETAILS

My bet is that the increase in points is "traded" to Disney for services. Just like now when you use your points to stay at AKL. So DVC is not running the lounge just buying services by you using your points. I would not think DVC would take on the lounge.

I'm envisioning something that seems to me to be very confusing. With each accomodation having 4 levels times the five different seasons applied to DVC resorts, means there will be 20 different point possibilities for each type unit. Do you think this is a good thing:confused3

How can it be bad? It means members have a lot more choices in how they want to use their points.

I'm betting the same rules will apply elsewhere: 1 bedrooms are available longer than studios, more expensive accommodations stay on the table unless there's something special like GV or guaranteed Savannah View. One difference may be those cheaper point rooms stay available longer if members can book Savannah view and so go for that regularly.

Thanks for sharing Tony! :cool1:

I'm pleasantly surprised by most of the information but am simply bewildered that DVC might actually NOT offer a guaranteed Savannah view. :confused3

I think your bet is correct. I may be making this up, but I though I had read this setup in one of the documents that came on line.

Actually, according to the recorded Declaration of Condominium, DVC will be running the concierge lounge. Costs will be shared with the AKL as long as the hotel continues ot offer concierge rooms, but the hotel has the right to opt out of continued use.

sounds like you really read that document! Any thing else that would be of interest??

How do I convince Dh that a 50 point add-on won't affect how quickly we will be able to finish the basement?;)

When I told my husband today that the points would start being sold this week the first thing he asked was whether the credit limit on our Disney Visa card was high enough to charge the entire purchase of points (we like earning that 1%.) I'm glad he thought of that- now I've already emailed Disney Visa and increased our card limit. We're ready for Thursday! :goodvibes

Dean,

I understand that the rooms require more points but doesn't that almost entirely benefit DVD (more points to sell means more $$$)?

Yes, it will put more points into circulation, but it will also cause more expenses to be incurred by the whole. For example, if the concierge services cost $500,000 annually to operate and there are 10 million points in circulation, every owner pays $.05 per point, per year to fund the concierge lounge regardless of whether they book a concierge room or not.
Every single member pays for something they don't use and this would be no exception. In this case they have to pay dues on more points and if they use them for the concierge, won't have them for other options. You could say the same thing about buses, the pool, etc. Remember it will only be the AKV members that pay this.

If there are dedicated 2 bedrooms with 2 Q's, we're probably in. That's our only disappointment with BWV.

As I see it, who would want to stay at VAK if you cant have the savanah view. I really hope that they do not have a lot of value and parking lot views.

So it's 9:45 EasternTime. Who is going to be first to call thier guide?

(Not me, I am off to a doctor's appointment!)

Already emailed him yesterday (Sunday.) He's getting back to me on Thursday (Feb 1) when he's allowed to give me more details. I need a few questions answered before I know how many points to buy.

Question:

May 2nd, 2007, ressies open to all DVCers

meaning you can book ressies until what date?

end of 2007?

That's all true, but the distinction I'm seeing is that this is the first resort amenity on which limitations are being placed while it is funded by the whole.

No, not everyone will CHOOSE to use the pool or bus transportation or valet parking, but in all of those cases it's a choice. In all of these cases, the amenity is still accessible to all guests regardless of what class room they decided to reserve.

But if access to the concierge lounge and CMs is limited to just the people booking these "Club" class rooms, that's an amenity funded by all members to which access is restricted. I can't think of a similar situation in the DVC world. Perhaps this is commonplace in other timeshares and I'm making too big a deal of it. Speaking as someone who is considering adding a few points at AKV, it's a little offputting to know that the concierge services would be funded by my dues, yet I would have no real intention of ever using it myself.

It should be subject to the 7-month window.

They are basically giving AKV owners a month head-start in making their reservations since they can't give them the full 4 month priority.

If Tony's dates are correct, by May 1st, owners at AKV will be able to book trips from 9/1/07 to (approx) 4/1/08. That's their 11-month window.

As of May 2nd, non-owners should have access to remaining nights in the period of 9/1/07 to 12/2/07. Nights from 12/3 onward will be subject to the normal 7-month restriction.

aaah...all is clear now:thumbsup2

(Not me, I am off to a doctor's appointment!)

I called my guide at 8:50am. Knowing she wouldn't be in until 9AM, I wanted to leave a voice mail as early as possible. Waiting for her to call back.

Anyone else think it is strange that the guides will not be allowed to give out info until the day they are allowed to sell?

The Guides would probably argue that it's even more strange to see people falling all over themselves for information. :rotfl:

I don't say that to insult anyone but if you step back and look at the situation, it's pretty easy to see the humor. They aren't going to start taking reservations for over 2 months so there's no functional need to be on the phone today or Thursday or anytime in the next 8 weeks. DVC isn't going to run out of points. ;)
