greenban EXCLUSIVE: AKL DETAILS

Bummer! Can they be rented, since I'm already set for this year?

Y-ASK

They can be reallocated to existing ressies in the correct time frame.

Can they be rented? That depends on how you interpret the POS. I would say yes, but DVC-Compliance and Legal would be the definitve source.

Thanks Greenban. Think I might and try and suprise DH and switch or ressie for Oct 27-Nov 2. Right now we are booked at SSR and we have talked about seeing if we can switch to VWL at 7 months out. The hardest thing will be keeping the secret!;)

I hope I am too! But I just can't see Disney making such a colossal blunder as to say it's hit or miss whether you will get a savannah view villa. They are smart enough to know that it matters and they read these boards where many of us (myself included) have stated that the lack of a guaranteed savannah view is a deal breaker.

I think the bigger risk re: savannah views is at concierge level. If I remember correctly from posts I've read on the Resorts board, if you stay concierge level at AKL you are not guaranteed a savannah view -- you could get a pool view room. (I hope someone will correct me on this if I am wrong here.) So I'm wondering if the same issue will carry over to AKV's concierge level?

I'm encouraged by the leaked info that has been posted so far, but will want to see confirmation from DVC on the villa sizes and that savannah view is guaranteed.

I'm fairly certain I messed up the info in translation. While my memory is now fogged, I agree with those who suggest the view will be confirmed at booking time, and that pricing will be the same for pool and savanah view. But I am not certain yet. Sorry for the confusion.

I mentioned this in another post but it's worth mentioning again. If it is correct that DVC at the AKLV will have access to the Concierge, that means that we will have access to the Sunrise Safari which IMHO will be a very big deal for DVC members.

You are correct. The current concerige level at AKL does NOT gurantee you a view.

I will probably buy some points, but if the Savannah view is NOT guranteed, it will be a much smaller purchase then if they are guranteed.

Thanks, Tony. I am happy to see that they have not increased the point requirements per night, but I am guessing that the cost to buy will increase as the villas start to open in a few months. I choose not to buy points there, I just added on at SSR and I feel that once the resort is fully open and operating, getting a room there will not too hard if you are flexible.

I agree that the size of AKV should make it relatively easy to get at 7 months - which is why it makes no sense for an existing DVC member to buy AKV unless there is a separate booking category for savanah view rooms.

How do I convince Dh that a 50 point add-on won't affect how quickly we will be able to finish the basement?;)

Is anyone else troubled by the possibility that only those paying extra points will have access to concierge services, yet it would seem a given that the COSTS of providing that service are part of the budget and thus shared by ALL owners?

IMO, this is kinda like having a separate room category for those who wish to have pool access vs non-pool rooms.

No since they will be more points those using it will be paying for it in terms of more dollars from a purchase standpoint and more fees.

Dean,

I understand that the rooms require more points but doesn't that almost entirely benefit DVD (more points to sell means more $$$)?

Yes, it will put more points into circulation, but it will also cause more expenses to be incurred by the whole. For example, if the concierge services cost $500,000 annually to operate and there are 10 million points in circulation, every owner pays $.05 per point, per year to fund the concierge lounge regardless of whether they book a concierge room or not.

Hmm, the points quoted were for Value and Peak seasons? That's the hotel ranking not DVC seasons.

Even still, it seems AKV points won't be that far off from what SSR would cost me. Only real disparity comes with 2 bedroom units and up. I can envision some stays there in my future.

I'm envisioning something that seems to me to be very confusing. With each accomodation having 4 levels times the five different seasons applied to DVC resorts, means there will be 20 different point possibilities for each type unit. Do you think this is a good thing:confused3
