Green vegetables for kids?

I am overlooking something, or are there extremely few options for getting green vegetables for your kids? I'm talking broccoli, peas, green beans...they seem to be nonexistent. Come to think about it, I can't recall salad offerings either. I think it's great that carrot sticks are an option, but I don't want that to be the only veggies my kids get all week.

Anywhere other than a few of the buffets and Teppanyaki that will serve them green veggies? And any of them actually fresh and not canned?

The kids menu's are somewhat limited. Great that they have the healthy option, but as you say, not so appealing every day!

DS can't eat any veggies or fruit uncooked (oral allergy, a real pain for him  ) so it would be great if they could offer corn, peas or something similiar cooked (even the carrots) that I know he can eat.

I think the kids meals are a bit of a work in progress at present. I guess you could always ask for a substitute, you might get a sympathetic server.

that I looked at. Of course I'm sure that it is iceberg lettuce which doesn't have a lot of the health benefits of typical green veggies!

We just got back yesterday after 5 days on the ddp with 3 adults & 1 8 yr old & the choices for kids at the ts were really horrible. They have the same menu at almost every restaurant. There were usually no appetizers unless you consider the side dishes which are served in the ears of the mickey dish but they are served along with the entree so it's really hard to consider them an appetizer. Every restaurant also had the same desert...vanilla ice cream "sundae"...every night how ridiculous. The adult deserts were way too much for us so he ended up eating one of ours & we still had plenty left. I know if we went to buffets it would have been a different story but we don't like buffets. Le Cellier & Kona had soup for kid's appetizers but Wolfgang Puck's & Raglan Rd didnt have any kid's appetizers at all & the adult appetizers are way too big for a child to eat by himself so we ended up ordering appetizers he would like just so we could share with him. As far as veggies go there really weren't any. Most of the meals were pasta. At dinner on the last night my 8 yr old nephew asked his dad if Disney thought children were third class citizens. I was surprised by this remark & disappointed that he felt that way, especially since he was eating my decidedly decadent triple chocolate dessert at Raglan road...a fabulous place by the way, at the time. So I guess it really bothered him that he had very few dinner choices during the week.

I noticed that the Sci-Fi has a salad on the kids menu.

I got green beans into DS9 at the Garden Grill at Epcot but they were from the adult plate.

Other than that it just seem like raw carrots which worked for DS4 but DS9 wont eat raw.

Most places have a green veggie as part of the pre-set meal options. It was usually green beans there were also a few with corn or sweet potatoes. Salad or raw veggies were often appetizer choices. The problem with those is that they are often grilled fish and grilled chicken and neither of my kids likes grilled food plus the kids quickly figured out that those meals come with yogurt as the dessert so no dessert. The veggies all seemed to be fresh or frozen definitely not canned. If they order from the pick one part of the menu there were esssentially no veggies and they seemed much less healthy than my kids ate pre-healthier menus ;)

DD got steamed veggies (green beans and carrots) at both Spoodles and 50's PT. Also, I believe just about every TS kids' menu has a garden salad as an option.

Even my 12 year old fits into this category....
Children have much more sensitive taste buds than us (thus their strong preference for sweets, and often bland food). Adults had lost that sensitivity over the years, so we often enjoy stronger flavors, including bitters like beer.
MANY (if not MOST) children 3-9 are not adventurous eaters. So Disney does cater to that. It is likely that my 12 year old will order from the kids menu, and his VERY adventurous 9 year old sister will order from the adult menu. (she even tried escargots on DCL--LOVED them!:woohoo: ) Luckily we will be able to order FOUR appetizers at each TS...if we can get rings or fried cheese, DS12 will be happy. And he likes few desserts....vanilla ice cream is about it!

I noticed a "healthy" option on many of the TS kids menus, which was very nice. Grilled chicken or salmon, salad, fruit, veggies, smoothie or yogurt. My younger 2 would LOVE this choice. (again, DS12 likes grilled cheese, burger, chicken fingers, mac & cheese, PB&J...you get the idea!:rolleyes1 KIDFARE)
At 10.99/kid for DDP, and considering most kids couldn't eat a full appetizer, entree & dessert (cripes, most adults can't !), I'd say the sides "as appetizers" is appropriate, usually.

 At Disney, Key Lime Pie counts as a green veggie!

But it's not on the kid's menu so I guess Canda is right..no veggies on vacation, at least for kids:lmao:

Of the 5 restaurants we ate ts meals only 2 had kid's appetizers. There were none at Wolfgang's, Olivia's or Raglan Road & they even asked us that since there were no kid's appetizers if we wanted them to bring his entree with our appetizers or wait til we got our entrees. As far as fried cheese, I didn't notice mozzarella stix on any menu but I did see a huge basket of onion rings at Olivia's..most of the appetizers were "adult oriented" & delicious. I could go for a couple right now:love:

My DD is a veggie eater, so I would always ask for them to add a green veggie to a kids meal and most of the WDW TS restaruants would do this for us. With no additional charge.

If you don't see it on the menu for kids and it is on the adult menu, then ask and generally they can accommidate (from our exerience)

I was just about to say this. If you see it on the adult menu, you should be able to get it for kids.

A few veggie places: lunch or dinner at Liberty Tree Tavern offers some good veggie choices, '50s Prime Time Cafe has lots of veggies, and The Sunshine Seasons counter service in the Land pavillion at Epcot has several somewhat healthy choices.

That's good to know. Our whole family eats very healthy. I'm sure we'll have a few extra sweets while we're on vacation, but I don't want to abandon sensible eating altogether. Even after a weekend of eating crappy, my 7yo can notice that she feels sluggish and yucky.
