Okay, I've got to ask as I keep reading about Green Bean Casserole on here...do you only eat or serve it on holidays, like Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving, or parties? :confused3

I've never heard of it before...must be a USA thing.

I love green beans but I like mine plain as a side dish or with butter. :eat:

Is it a "must have" on special occasions in your home or do you hate it?!!!

The only day of the entire year I make a green bean casserole is on Thanksgiving. Dh and ds like it. Dd and I don't. : )

Love it. But I only even think about it at holidays. My mom used to make a special version with canned asparagus instead of the green beans. Loved that, too.

No on in my family likes either version, so if I make it, I will have to eat it. I also like them plain with salt and butter..

It's a recipe that calls for mushroom soup and canned fried onions, so if you don't like beans you never taste them. It's a holiday "must have" for a lot of folks. I thought it was great when I was a kid. Now that I actually like vegetables, it doesn't appeal to me.

We only eat green bean casserole on Thanksgiving and Christmas. I love it, and it is the only way DH will eat green beans. DD hates green beans in all forms, so she doesn't eat it. I have made the same casserole but used broccoli instead of green beans- not as yummy, but DD will eat it.

We only have it 2 times a year mainly because it pretty much cancels out any "healthy veggie" credit by covering the beans in cream of mushroom soup and french fried onions. But it is yummy!!

I absolutely hate it. Even as a kid. To me, it is just nasty. On top of it--I think the recipe calls for canned or frozen green beans. Yuck. And why would you want to ruin fresh green beans that way?

I don't know--for me, Thanksgiving is about pulling out all the stops, making stuff homemade, doing something special--not opening a bunch of cans and dumping them in a dish.

Can you tell I hate it?;)

I agree with ya, why ruin good fresh green beans in that green bean casserole, yuck. BUT I like both. In fact, I copied some recipe off the DIS just 2-3 days ago for a fresh green bean recipe, one with mushrooms, bacon, red onion, cider vinegar and it was really good, thank you whoever posted it. :thumbsup2

I'm makin' the mushroom soup recipe with canned beans, with a dash of tabasco. I'm cravin' 'em now that y'all are postin' these food threads. :lmao:

Personally I like it - I make it for the holidays and then a couple of times a year when I get hungry for it.

Green beans are one of my favoriate veggies so I like them all sorts of ways. :)

It doesn't work with wonderful bright fresh green beans, it has to be the soft, soggy, drab green ones in a can!:lmao:

My mother in law makes it every Thanksgiving. Not sure why because no one really eats it. I think it looks nasty but I also don't like green beans or mushrooms..so I won't even try it.

I know so many people that love the green bean casserole, but I personnaly hate it. My MIL makes it every Thanksgiving and Christmas though. I much prefer to eat steamed green beans.

I love it, but only with French-style green beans. We may make it for any get together meal (holiday or otherwise), but don't have to have it.

You're quite welcome! :goodvibes

I freakin' love green bean casserole and would probably eat it weekly if I could. That said, I generally only end up eating it a few times a year, on holidays, with the odd time thrown in when it just strikes me as a good thing to make that night.

I don't like it at all, but there's a lot of stuff I don't like. If I had to guess, it probably pops up around the holidays since there are usually plenty of other options for people who don't like it. For clarification, I do like green beans, a lot, but I don't like anything all goo'd up.

I won't eat anything that has cream of mushroom soup in it; that stuff makes me want to hurl.
