Great Wolf Resort looks great

I usually hop onto Harbor from the 5 near DL. But this time we were coming from Huntington Beach, so we took Harbor from the 22. I got to see a lot of those large hotels that are along the way that I've never seen. Then we came across the Great Wolf resort. I've been reading about this place. If you drive by now, you can see enormous waterslides emerging from the structure. It looks like it will by spectacular. It's a bit far from DL, so a car or ART will be required. But I can't see myself doing anything but the waterslides anyway, if I stay there.

But the water slides are all indoors, right? I read that somewhere I think. I would imagine it will get very humid and uncomfortable in there in the summer, like the indoor pool at my YMCA. No air and highly chlorinated water just seem like a bad combo in sunny Southern California summers.

Those are very popular here in Ohio! All the fun of a waterpark, but no sunburn! :)

They had one near where I lived in north Texas. Looks good for families. I would be afraid of catching something there.

All slides are indoors, but you can see one of those giant vortex slides coming out of what looks like the main building and into another area. All indoors! So it would be great if you're booked for DL in the winter but the kids want to do waterslides. My kids are going to love this. Wish it was open now!

It's is going to be a HUGE competitor to the Disney hotels. I am sure they will have plenty of hotel transportation to and from the Disneyland Resort.

I wouldn't be surprised if Disney offers a similar hotel in the future, perhaps rebuilding the Paradise Pier.

I've never heard such a complaint about the GWL. They are expensive and can afford air conditioning, unlike at least one SoCal ymca I know about.

Good to know. If there's proper ventilation and cooling, I will definitely be making a trip down there. My son loves water parks.

I don't think this will hurt Disney at all. The prices for this place are going to be about the same or even more than PPH and possible even DLH and it is much farther away! For me, it does seem really cool and fun, but when I go to Disneyland I want to spend my time at the parks, not at a water park. I'm sure it will be packed with families though! :)

I hated Great Wolf Lodge. It is sooooooo hot in the slide pool area it made me gag. It is also soooooooo loud inside as well. It is a big time money pit, so add that to your budget if you add it along with Disney. For most of the summer months I would prefer to go to the outdoor pool parks in the area over GWL. They really don't have enough to entertain older kids, the slides get rather boring after awhile. I that the other water parks around the area have more variety. I live in Washington where you would think this would be a great place to go, but honestly, been there for 1 night and will never go back.

I've never quite understood the point of doing this-and not trying to stir the pot: coming onto a thread about, say, a waterpark hotel just to say you'd never go.

I am trying to remember this good rule of thumb: don't yuck on somebody else's yum. :)

Disney has had a water park in the hopper for quite sometime and they have the land to build it next to the PPH (plus other sites), but they've had other spending priorities and they've worried about it being over run by locals. If Great Wolf is successful, Disney might move, but it won't be for sometime yet.

I too think the Great Wolf looks great and I'd certainly give it a shot. I've been to a few indoor water parks and no, they are not like an indoor YMCA pool. They are loud though as the noise really echoes.

Some sort of water born bacterial infection or parasite.

You don`t have either of these in Texas ? How would it be any different out here? I`m sure the place is inspected by the State Health Dept.

I live near the original Great Wolf Lodge. They do a great business.
Hope people enjoy the DL area one as much as people around here do.

I live near the N. Texas one but have never been. It gets marketed as a staycation for locals. For your room rate you get tickets to the waterpark but everything else is extra. Many of my friends who have taken their kids say MagicQuest will suck all the money out of your wallet.
