Hi Everyone..

We are heading there for Easter weekend.. and I am really looking forward to it.. I would like to take snacks and breakfast items with them.. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to bring or what they brought when they went? Is there a toaster? or can you bring one? I heard the food is expensive.. is there restaurants close by?.. Any other pointers would be great! I want to have a nice and relaxing 2 days.. of doing nothing but relaxing!!..

Thanks.. Sarah:hippie:

Enjoy Sarah! GWL is loads of fun. There is a coffee maker, fridge and microwave in the rooms. Take a toaster if you want. We read awful reviews about the restaurants in GWL so we ate off-site....except for one counter service breakky....on the morning we left we bought a couple of muffins and a bagel at the coffee shop in the lobby.

A neighbour recommended Bassel's [sp?] about 5 minutes drive from GWL. But it was just "ok" for me. I really like the "Flying Saucer" Restaurant up Lundy's Lane. It's a diner with LOTS of options and excellent prices. The atmosphere is like Disney's Space Mountain. I also really like eating at Mama Mia's.

Enjoy! Sandra

We're heading there this weekend. I think we'll bring cereal and milk, some microwavable meals, and then we'll eat out a couple meals.

We adored Mama Mia's!:thumbsup2 Very couple friendly AND family friendly, awesome pizza! Can't wait to try the pasta. Had so much fun - they even had live music the night we were there.

Have fun at the falls!

When I was a child in Montreal, one of our BIG vacations was driving 7 hours to Niagara Falls.

We had dinner at Mama Mia's.

30+ years later and I'm still eating there!

Spaghetti and Meatballs with bread and salad at a great price and great food!

The Beef Baron is nice too.

I like the "locals" restaurants. Sandra

Zappi's is a great pizza joint in Niagara Falls. I've never seen any tourists there, but there are obviously lots of local regulars.

Just past the Beef Baron (2 or three shop up on the same side on CENTRE ST) is a chinese restaurant called the New York. Excellent chinese food!! I grew up in NF and love this place.

I haven't been to zappi's in years but they used to have great food!!! Lundy's Lane is where there are alot of restaurants. The farther out you get the better the food gets. Victoria Ave runs parallel to the falls and then runs up a hill that turns into Lundy's Lane. On Victoria Ave its hit and miss with the restaurants. A lot of locals stay away cause its tourist food. High prices and low quality (generally). Flying saucer is on Lundy's Lane and has great breakfast. Subs and stuff are great too for lunch or dinner. Must try the saucer fries!! Chili meat sauce. Good luck. Have fun!!

In terms of breakfast food, we go to the Tim Hortons which is just minutes from the lodge. We grab KFC for dinner too in town and bring it back to our room to eat so as to not waste any time! We pack drinks for the fridge and bring snacks too. My girls love their pasta and I can use the microwave to cook some up in our microwavable pasta maker container!

We found the food at GWL to be just OK and pricey. The buffet restaurant for breakfast was fine, but we had a deal where that was included with the cost of the room. Along Lundy's Lane are a couple of places we like (we live about 20 minutes from Niagara Falls). For breakfast Falls Manor is fantastic - it's just west of Dorchester Road before you get the the Outlet shops. FM isn't fancy, but it has great prices, fast service and very good food. Belgian waffles...yum - they heat the syrup, which is a nice touch. Carpaccio's, just a little east of Falls Manor is excellent for dinner - mostly Italian, but they have a nice variety, not just pasta and pizza. Great service! For pizza I love Pizzeria Antica on Victoria Ave just west of Clifton Hill. Wood oven pizza! I like it a lot better there than Zappi's.
We saw Mike Myers at Antica with the crew from a film they were working on when we were there a little while ago. DH and I were pretty excited to see someone famous!

We've been to GWL so many times now I am getting pretty savvy at preparing meals using the microwave. I bring a toaster and a loaf of bread, butter, peanut butter and the fixin's for toast or sandwiches. I actually bring a microwave bowl and I microwave KD for the kids for lunch or dinner. We also bring popcorn for watching an in-room movie in the evening. Breakfast is easy with cereal, muffins, bagels, etc and lots of room in the fridge for juices and milks.

Take food into the waterpark - they don't seem to monitor and enforce this. I've taken sandwiches, drinks , fruite and big bags of chips and had them spread all over the tables in front of lifeguards and noone seems to care.

There is a Pizza Hut on site and you can get a dinner for 4 for around $22 which I thought was pretty good (4 personal pizzas and 4 drinks I think it was).

We've eaten breakfast, lunch and dinner at the restaurant on site and was unimpressed each time - very pricey for the selection and quality. The buffet breakfast is probably the best bet. But it you had to choose between the buffet lunch and the waterpark food - go restaurant. It is actually less expensive with salads and healthier chioce and better selection for the kids also!

A little OT, but just another question about GWL. At what age do you let your kids go on the waterslides and not follow them around??? Just trying to figure out if we can do it with both older and younger kids at the same time and have fun.

GWL rule is 14 years old to let the kids wonder on their own. I gave dd some freedom at OPR in CBR when she was 12 years old....I was having a meal while she shopped.

At GWL, I let her go anywhere she wants....she is 14 years old now. In the summer, we went to Kalahari Resort in Ohio and I let her wonder around.

You know your own kids....

BTW....Falls Manor is AWESOME! I LOVE THE WAFFLES and BROILED CHICKEN!

I microwave Eggo pancakes for my kids at breakfast (20 seconds, flip over, cook another 20 seconds). They come out soft and fluffy this way. So I would bring those, with a small tupperware of syrup. I don't know if the fridges have freezers or not, but even if they thaw, just cut down the cook time.

I will second Falls Manor. I used to live in and waitress in the Falls.
Antica as another poster mentioned has amazing pizza.
Anything in and around Clifton hill avoid like the plague if it is a chain restaurant like Denny's or TGIF. They are ridiculously expensive for mediocre food.

I take my cheap little toaster to EVERY hotel we go to. We also eat waffles for breakfast but we put them in the toaster. It is fine if they unthaw and they taste the same, just make sure that they are in the fridge. With the toaster, we have of course toast but then we have toasted sandwiches for lunch too! Save alot.....;)

I agree that Antica has great food, we used to live in the area too. We were at GWL last weekend, and had fun. The food is over priced though. in room brekkie is easy, I did things other suggested. Have fun!
