We are going to Great Wolf Lodge in a few weeks to escape the winter blahhhhs since we could not do our usually January Disney trip.

Does anyone have any tips for Great Wolf Lodge? Are pool shoes necessary or recommended? Any other things we need to know??

I would highly suggest water shoes. The floor gets very slippery. We learned that the first time we went and after that never went without them. My kids fell many times that first trip.

Other then that I can't think of anything else.

How long are you staying?

Oh and if you're going to one with the magic wand thing...it's totally worth it!!

I've been twice and I cant recall seeing many with water shoes, although if you are accident prone I would suggest them. BRING YOUR OWN FOOD! Its pricey there and you'll have a fridge/microwave in your room. If you plan on doing magic quest buy your wands online (ebay) and save yourself some money. Bring PJ's you dont mind everyone seeing (especially kids) there is storytime in the lobby in your pj's. Bring a "take home " bag with a set of clothes to change into for your last day. Arrive early, both times I've went I was able to check in at 11am, even though the website says 1pm.

I'll do a +1 about bringing your own food. We always pack breakfast and lunch food, so we only do dinner "out", and rarely on property. We have visited the Niagara Falls location,a and even the high-priced tourist food places were no more than GWL, and the food was FAR better. I can't speak for all locations, but the food there was kind of "eewww" when we went. :rotfl:

I'd also second the pool shoes. For us, it wasn't so much about it being slippery as it was about comfort. The pool bottoms were sometimes rough and the shoes were nice to wear.

Lastly, I'd suggest two suits per person if you can, so that the suits can be dry before you have to put them back on. Nothing like wandering the hotel in a very cold, wet suit. :lmao:

If you're going to the one in Concord/Charlotte, I'd recommend water shoes! My DD tends to scrape her feet on the floor of the wave pool, so she asks for her water shoes. However, some of the lifeguards made us take our shoes off before going down the slides. I wear mine because it grosses me out to walk around barefoot where everyone else is, too...especially the bathrooms.

I would definitely get water shoes. It just helps with all the abuse the bottom of your feet take at the resort waterpark. Beyond that, I'd say you're good to go! Enjoy!

I have been to the GWL in Niagara Falls Canada and I can't recall seeing anyone with water shoes. We brought flip flops to wear from our room to the water park area, but we left them with our towels.

We booked an all-inclusive package and I thought that the food was very good and that the selection was excellent. It was not cheap, but I would do it again.

We spent Thanksgiving at The Great Wolf Lodge in the Wisconsin Dells. We did not use water shoes and I don't recall seeing many other with them. We brought flip flops to wear to the waterpark, but only used them one day. It was too annoying to have to go to a different part of the park to find our shoes once we were ready to go back to our room. I'll also second the bringing your own food. Especially if you have a larger family. We did breakfast and lunch in our condo and ate out for dinner. We stayed for three nights. Ate at the Lodge two of the three and got Subway for the third night. :) Our girls loved it and can't wait to go back. Have fun!

I've only been to the one in traverse city mi. I'd say go ahead and get the water shoes, they can be found for silly cheap and so it doesn't hurt. You can always use them at disney world later.

The one in Michigan had a family sort of sit down restaurant, and some other franchisey (pizza hut express? I don't remember for sure) sorts of quick bite places. I thought the restaurant they had was fine.
