While I know there is probably NO comparison, I need to ask anyway. Since almost alll our vacations are at WDW, I am always reluctant to try other places, thinking they just can't hold a candle to Disney. But that being said, I have read some favorable comments on these boards about Great Wolf Lodge and I am considering staying at the one in Williamsburg in early Dec (w/DH and 4kids). What I really am wondering about is (with WDW as a reference point)...
1. the cleanliness of the water area
2. the quality of the rooms
3. the friendliness of staff
4. and if anyone can tell me the proximity to Colonial Williamsburg.

Thanks! :sunny:

I don't know anything about Great Wolf Lodge (though I have heard they are very nice, I have never stayed in one) I just wanted to tell you that Williamsburg is absolutely one of our most favorite places on earth! There is so much culture and history there, as well as fun stuff like Busch Gardens and Water Country USA. I am one of those weird dissers that, much as I love WDW, just has to go someplace else once or twice a year. I think too much Disney results in a "been there, done that" feeling. Oooopsss, better put on my flame-proof suit!!! My two older kids are getting tired of WDW, my dd13 LOVES Williamsburg so much she wants to work there some day! Stop comparing and go have fun :sunny: !....Seriously, maybe someone else has stayed there and can help you out. I have to say we have stayed in a couple of different condos/hotels in Williamsburg and driving around there is really no big deal, it's not that big of a town! (NOTHING like the traffic in Orlando!)

We took our girls to the Williamsburg GWL last December. The resort was decorated beautifully for the holidays. We had a kids kamp room and it was generously sized. The water park was a lot of fun and clean. The staff was friendly. The only problem we ran into was lack of food options. The sit-down restaurant was blah. The pizza hut was so overwhelmed they stopped taking orders and closed down with a long line of people waiting. The quick service area in the water park was out of many options. There is an IHOP right outside of the resort gates, though, as well as fast food. A little further on toward Colonial Williamsburg there was all manner of restaurants. Just don't plan to eat onsite and you'll be fine. The resort is close to Colonial Williamsburg - about a 10 minute drive.

Have fun!

Great Wolf lodge in Williamsburg is Clean, rooms are waaaaay bigger(we did a kid cabin) staff is not as friendly but fine- not rude in any way.- at least we didn't see that. And it is a hop skip and a jump of about 10 minutes to colonial williamsburg. I agree the food stinks- but just around the corner is a Sonic(not much better I know but sometimes you need it....) and a great bbq place less than a mile down the road from the hotel. So we would grab BBQ for us and a Pizza for the kids from Pizza hut(that is in the hotel.) One thing to point out that we would do differently next time- we spent 4 nights at GWL and I think we would have been better off staying a little less- you really are paying for the water park and we spent 2 days at Busch Gardens and one day and a half at Colonial williamsburg. I think I would have spent 2 nights at a cheaper place for the Busch Gardens days.....

We've stayed at the GWL in Williamsburg twice. The hotel is very clean but I have to agree with the other posters in saying that the food S-T-I-N-K-S :crazy2: !! We got a deal on our last stay that included a free breakfast the next morning. Well, the line for the breakfast buffet when outside the front doors!! Advice, bring your own goodies or explore a bit and find a restaurant your family would enjoy!

We only live 45 minutes from Williamsburg and we hold Season Passes for the Busch Gardens there and we really wish we could pay for just a day pass for the GWL..maybe when the resort is at it's slowest (so the resort doesn't loose any money by allowing people to do that).

I need to get my 6 yr dd to Colonial Williamsburg this fall. We haven't taken her there, yet! :goodvibes

Great Wolf Lodge in Williamsburg is clean, the rooms are large, and the staff pretty friendly. But as other posters have stated the food is just BAD.
