Ducklite, just curious - when you signed up for their promo program (whatever-its-called) were you required to give your SS number? I'm constantly asked and refuse to give it, for obvious reasons, and they won't let me join without it. I hate to miss promos like you've described but the SS issue is much too important, and there's no logical reason they should need it unless they're doing the obvious with it!

However, an out-of-state friend insists she was NOT required to give her SS #, agreeing that she wouldn't have joined had it been required. Just curious, TIA.

No, I would never give my SS# out unless I was applying for credit or some other valid reason. But for marketing purposes, no way! And I've never applied for a VS credit card.

Yep last time I was at VS they asked for my SS# and seemed STUNNED that I wouldnt just freely give it out. My mother has been thru identity theft before (took years to get it straightened out) and there is no way I am going to hand over any extra information that easily!

Interesting about the SS#. I don't recall them requesting it, and if they did I would have declined. Perhaps in NJ they aren't allowed to do so? I haven't been in a VS in FL, so I'm sure it was in NJ that thye "found" me.

I got the coupon the other day also!

And it couldn't have come at a better time. We had a squirrel in our basement for a few days last week. He ended up shredding my favorite pair of jeans and two bras that were in the hamper waiting to be washed during his visit!

I never have given VS my SS# either. I have no idea how I am on their mailing list. Do they ever ask for a phone number when checking out? I may have given that just to be on a mailing list at some point.

Just a little FYI ~ did y'all know when you have your drivers liscense renewed, you can opt NOT to have your SS# on it? A very good idea IMO as retailers often continue ask for ID!

My NJ and FL DL's don't have my SS# on them. You do have to provide the info when applying, but it's not on the license. Not sure about FL, but in NJ they'll turn you down flat without a SS#.
