Backstory: My husband and his best friend are in MIA over the weekend, left Thursday for a guys weekend, staying in South Beach, going to the UM game on Saturday.
So on Wednesday my hubby told me he and his best friend need a car - they're flying in to FLL, staying in MIA. He said, "just get a car, with wheels and doors, we'll probably just park it at the hotel anyway".
I pulled out my note with codes and rates, and tried priceline and hotwire - tried/was denied for priceline up to $20/day for the 3 days, and hotwire was around $25/day + tax for the lowest car level.
National's regular rate was around $150 including all taxes and fees for a sub compact.
When I used contract 5504500, I think it was for Sam's Club, and the National coupon for a free weekend day, and another one (electronic, Entertainment Book) for a one car upgrade, I ended up with a rate of $87 after taxes and fees for a compact (Nissan Versa or Similar) - but with a promised upgrade at time of rental - making it a Pontiac G5 or similar.
When they got to the counter on Thursday, the agent told them to pick a car from a particular aisle of cars - hubby said there were Taurus', G6, etc. there, but at the end, there was a 4 door Jeep Wrangler soft top! Needless to say, they took the Jeep and are super happy to be driving around Miami in a convertible!
BTW, specialty type cars were close to $400 for the rental period - whew, what an upgrade!
A little work on my part, but they ended up with a great car for less than the price of a cab ride from FLL to MIA!
