I've planned what I feel is the ultimate vacation for our family. We're going to Disney in May 07 - staying at VWL and have all the ADRs I know we'll want. I booked Akershus and CRT w/my DDs in mind and CM and Ohanas breakfast for DS - and of course me and DH too. Even booked BBB for DD4.

The closer it gets I'm just not feeling excited anymore. I was more excited last May when we booked our resort. Whats wrong w/me? Has this happened to anyone else? You know I think its going on an airplane thats bothering me - I've read books on scared of flying but it only help for a little while. I'm so scared to put my children on an airplane - whats wrong w/me other people do it?

Thanks for any comments.

I also went through a lull for a couple of months where I wasn't excited and didn't feel like doing any planning- usually I'm a planning fanatic. But now that our trip's only 6 days away, I'm bouncing off the walls. Now my big worry is that we'll all be sick or else a blizzard will hit that will delay our trip. DH absolutely HATES to fly but by spending a few hours flying, we get to spend at least 2 1/2 more days in the parks than if we drove. Yeah, DH hates flying so much that one time we were flying home to Illinois from San Diego and had to make an "emergency" landing at LAX because the landing gear was stuck DOWN. As we were coming in for our perfectly smooth landing he screamed "We're all gonna die!" Of embarrassment maybe... Thanks to DH, I hate flying now too.

I totally understand what you are going through. I think, with me at least, because I start planning these trips so far in advance and spend countless hours planning the "perfect" trip, by the time the trip starts getting really near, you know that the 5 or 7 days will go by so fast, and then what will you have to look forward to. I made myself take a break from planning for a few months right after I made my ADR's (180 days out). After the holidays, I started getting into it again. And now, with only 69 days left, I'm getting really excited again. But, I also have the nagging feeling that as fast as the days are going by right now, they will be even faster when we are in WDW. I don't have any advice other than to wait it out, it will pass and then you will get so excited all over again.

I was just reading your replies and I also think its because I started planning so soon. Did my ADRs on the 180th day and since then I really haven't done much except visit these boards. But I have written my lists (and more lists) for packing/airplane carryon/park bags etc.

I think the whole trip is a little overwhelming for me - to plan the whole thing (which I've enjoyed so much but still theres an element of pressure to make sure I make the right decisions for my family), to buy clothes and essentials for everyone, to pack for everyone. I still have no idea how we're going to do it - how I'm going to do it.

I'm sure as it gets closer I'll be more excited and I'll be happier when I'm able to do more - I want to start buying clothes and toiletries and start organizing.

Suzykt4 - have a wonderful trip - wow 6 days left! Have fun!

thebrain - have a wonderful trip too. Those 69 days will go fast I'm sure. Have fun!

Are you all done planning? Maybe you some more projects -- make customized autograph books, prepare your scrapbooking supplies for when you return, make t-shirts, master digital photography.

If anything, it will keep busy so you're not thinking of flying all the time and make your trip all that much better. I also feel apprehensive when thinking about the family flying until we are actually doing it, then it is just a series of steps to go through. I think thebrain has it and as your trip gets closer, the excitement will build again.

Nope not done planning well - as far as the daily itinerary I'm all done w/that. I'm going to order gift baskets for our 3 kids, order groceries from Garden Grocer, make journals for the kids to fill in during our trip , buy summer clothes, order SeaWorld tickets - lots to do but its too soon to do all that. I have everything scheduled on the calendar as to when to do things. I guess January is just a long month - starting in February I'll have more things to do.

We're going to surprise the kids w/this trip so I need to be careful w/what I have around for them to see before we surprise them. We're going to have the usual easter egg hunt but the toys inside the eggs will be clues for our trip to Disney. After that the kids and I will decorate Mousekeeping envelopes, make journals to record our days and pictures, may do an ABC journal for DD4 to find things that begin w/those letters at Disney. We'll do the scrapbooking when we get home - that'll give us something to do over the summer.

Thanks for the ideas - I think you're right - if I keep myself busy time will go faster and won't think about the airplane. January is almost over - what a long month!

I am in the midst of planning as well. I've made the ADRs but now I'm worrying that I didn't pick the best times or restaurants. Most of them are character meals so it's mainly for the kids. I have no idea what the weather will be like so I don't know what to even put on my list for packing. Plus I think if I plan too much, we will be under pressure the whole time and not be able to relax. :sad2:

If you think flying is the reason for not being excited, then call your doctor and he can prescribe you something to calm your nerves.

I almost did just that. I was almost besides myself last time we flew. I was so excited and so nervous. I was hungry, but felt like if I ate, I would throw up. But I felt like I would be sick if I didn't eat.....We flew, I survived. It was great.

My DH looks at it this way. Whether you are driving or flying, we are not in control. God is in control....Then he adds "If we die flying, at least we are all together!" Hmmmm.....that is a little comforting. Where is my doctor's number????

Just bring things to occupy you. I like cross work puzzles and handheld games like scrabble or poker. Our flight is a little over 2 hours, so it is not too long.

Good luck! It is safer to fly than to drive! Say it over and over again!
