Great offsite Mexican restaurant?

Hi all! We are staying at WH this December and I would like to know if there are any good Mexican restaurants? We have a car so driving around is no big deal. We love good mexican food, and great margaritas!

Where are you from and what do you consider good Mexican? If you're from anywhere near the border or an area with a high population of Mexican immigrants your idea will be VERY different from someone who is from, say, Maine or the Midwest. We had great Southwest/Tex Mex/ Mexican food in Southern California, Arizona and New Mexico. We found good Mexican in parts of the Atlanta suburbs. I haven't found anything worth recommending in VA at all yet. (Been here 8 years)

That said- my family does enjoy Chevy's Fresh Mex just outside of downtown Disney. I wouldn't call it authentic or amazing, but we really really like their fire roasted salsa. The rest is just "very good".

We do not enjoy Chevy's, personally I would rank it along with Taco Bell. We have had good food and service at Azteca D' Oro and Agave Azul. Both have a great cocktail menu. Most likely you can review the menus online. Most of the family prefers Agave but both are good although not hardcore authentic. It is in a strip center closer to Universal and has a really nice atmosphere that is totally different inside than the outward appearance of the shopping center.

LOL - I think Taco Bell is a bit harsh. Unless you have nicer Taco Bell's than we do. ;-) And I'll admit that over the past 15 years that we've been dropping in we've noticed a dumbing down of the quality - just like every where else. And that we haven't been to the world in sadly 4 years. I remember when they made their tortillas fresh onsite. mmmm warm fresh tortillas and fire roasted salsa...yummm But it's still good and better than what we have here in VA. Without a car you can also walk to Chevy's.

Thanks for the other two names. We're heading back in June next year hopefully. I'd like to try some other places.

We visited El Patron this past summer. If you have lived in the southwest US, you'd probably find it adequate. If you haven't, your opinion will probably be higher. Really friendly place; family-owned.

I live in the suburbs outside of Chicago. I have been to Chevy's and On the Border type of places for years. We now have a new little restaurant in a strip mall we go to. The food is more authentic, fantastic guacamole and margaritas!

You'll probably be fine with El Patron, then.
