I have been taking a small dose of thyroid replacement since 1995, so I have my blood checked about once a year to make sure I'm getting the right dose. My triglycerides had been very high the last time my lipids were checked a few years ago, and the cholesterol was on the high side, too. In September I got serious about losing weight, and started on Atkins. I was curious to see how the blood test results would change after eating fewer carbs, and I got the results today. My triglycerides were 63 - which thrilled me. My total cholesterol was 200, still on the high side for my doctor, who wants me on a low-fat diet. (OK - so maybe I'll adopt a lower-fat version of Atkins, or the South Beach Diet.) I ran out of thyroid medication when I returned from WDW Dec. 8th...so 6-1/2 weeks after not taking anything for that - my thyroid is normal!!!
When I find the numbers from my last lipids test, I'll know just how much everything has improved. Needless to say - I'm very pleased!!!
**UPDATE** I came across the results of bloodwork that was done in Dec. 1987 when I applied for life insurance. Yes...16+ years ago I weighed 135 pounds and was 31 years old!! My total cholesterol then was 209, and my triglycerides were 228 - elevated even back then. So - my triglycerides have really come down quite a bit!
