So we are taking my folks on our first trip. We were looking at 4 adult tickets and 1 child ticket for 4 base days...at a cost of $1060!

We just got a email from US Air Guard and saw the post on the main WDWinfo page, they are offering discount tickets for up to 5 people of retired military and a complimentary ticket for the retired person...$99 a piece! So we are looking at $396 (minus taxes), for 4 of us plus the free one for dad! So grand savings of like $670!!! We can add on the park hopper option for $25 a ticket for the other 4 of us also! And these are 5 days tickets for even more savings!

Great discount, the Military deserves it! My dad is retired Air Force. There is a great room discount that I just saw too.

Well deserved!

And a fellow VTer at that! ;)

I agree-its a terrific perk for those who really deserve it!!! Thank you all!

However, according the the blurb that the link on the disboards on page, military personnel must have been active anytime during 2008-2009. Better check that out before getting too excited!

The promo this year specifically includes retired military members, which is different than the otherwise similar promo in 2003 which did not include retired military. Looks like the OP can benefit from this promo. -- Suzanne

Exactly I was just coming here to clear that up as well, but looks like I don't have to now :)

Retired are included in this promotion! :thumbsup2

Aye, now if they would only add Veterans into the mix, I'd qualify for that. But dad being a retired, VET, he gets both props and this great deal!

Where in Vermont?

Too bad I can't get my dad NEAR the parks. He's retired Air National Guard and lives an hour away LOL!

Mine too! Retired Army National Guard and lives in Winter Garden. My ds and ddil are both active USAF but way out in Cali.

We are planning on vacationing with them again in a few years (they have two babies right now) and I'll be sure to have them check for discounts.

I'm glad I'm wrong! I think I misinterpreted the National Guard info. I also feel stupid not realizing that there is a difference between a vet and retired military.

I have a question maybe someone can help me with. I am 100% disabled from Iraq, do the discounts on the tickets apply to me and my family. When I bought my car they classified me as retired, being that I hold an indefinate ID card. I can't find any info on this deal, I know I can buy and stay at Shades of Green. Thanks! Rob

Kudos to Disney for doing this deal for people who really deserve it! I think they should keep this running indefinitely. I'm glad the OP benefits from it! Thank your DH for his service!

I think an indefinate ID card would be the key. My DH's retired card is just basically an indifinate ID. Maybe you could call SOG for more information.

This offer almost falls under the "to good to be true" catagory! I'm trying to talk my sister into coming with us on one of our fall trips now!

I was actually wondering how this works with a specific example (to preempt, I don't know much about military life even with the family connection)...

My sister-in-law is a military wife, her husband is actually in Afganistan right now. She is probably going with us on vacation (or at least part of it) with her son (my nephew who is 2) in the next couple of months.

In September last year, she was able to show her military ID (she is not military herself, but because she is married, she has some sort of ID) and was able to purchase her tickets at SOG. As she is a spouse, will she be able to get the free ticket and purchase any other family member tickets at $99?

It doesn't really matter that much in terms of the family tickets, just wondering if she benefits at all from this offer while her husband is deployed and she goes on vacation with us? It's not a deal breaker in anycase, just wondering.

As a military dependant spouse, she could purchase a companion ticket for herself and up to 4 other members of the travelling group. She is not eligible for the free ticket; only her DH,a s th emilitary member, is eligible for the free ticket. -- Suzanne

Are all former military personnel eligible? My dad served in the Marines many years ago, could he and my mom get this ticket discount?

not unless he is retired/disability & has the 'right colored' ID card

i just have an issue with the policy re reservists who may have only done min commitment stateside last year & are eligible, while those who served several combat tours, with DD214 & honorable discharge, etc yet didn't retire are excluded (yes, my DH...very little in the way of welcome home for viet nam vets @ that time:rolleyes1 would be nice to be recognized now)

realize there has to be a cut off somewhere, doesn't seem fair...jmho

to those who can take advantage, enjoy & hug ur miltary peep:goodvibes
