Friends of ours just booked on Spirit to join us for our Sept long weekend trip. They are a family of 5 and total was only $373! 
Yes, that's round trip for all 5!! Of course luggage fees will jack that up and if you have small children there are seat fees as well. My friend's kids are teens and frequent fliers so they don't mind being separated. Also in our case, minimal packing since it's a long weekend and Sept will be so hot, no need for long pants, jackets, etc.
This is from Atlantic City to Orlando and both ways are non stop.
She did join the $9 club or whatever that's called.
Just thought I'd let everyone know if you're hunting for cheap fares. Be flexible and keep searching!!!
