Just booked the July 3rd, 2004, western cruise from Costco.
Cat 9, two people for $2887.54. Thought I would put up
the post, although very early, best rate I could find. About
$300 less than the Disney web site rate of 3167.54.

Just make sure that price includes insurance. When I got a qoute from them it was without insurance. I had to specifically ask for it.

No insurance, no transfers, no air, just the way I wanted it. We have over 18 months until the trip, no worrys, yet.

Well then if you add the insurance in it is not too much of a savings. Also, with Costco, final payment is 75 days out, compared to 60 with Disney. I just know this, because I just got done comparing prices with everyone.;)

When you get an online quote from Dinsey you have the option of removing the transfers & insurance. I'm assuming Tooncanator compared apples to apples.

Disney price with insurance and transfers included. 3463.54
subtract insurance and transfers $ 296 this comes to 3167.54.
Costco price is 2887.54. this is a $280 savings from the Disney
web site. Soooooooo, tell me again why this is not such a good deal.

I am sorry if you are taking offense, non intended. Your origional post had Disney as $3167. I incorrectly assumed that included insurance. Great deal!

Costco was a good choice for us, too (I think it's a 10% rebate off retail -- before port fees and taxes).

Just remember that if you're getting insurance separate that pre-existing conditions are only covered if you purchase the insurance within a few days of your initial booking.

Sorry. I did not mean to jump down anyones throat, I just wanted to get the message out. Good luck to all.

Just make sure that price includes insurance.
Congrats on the great rate thru Costco.
Just a comment on insurance. We ended up not getting insurance this past November for our 4 day cruise. We cruised on DVC points. We called about a week away from the cruise to the company the DVC recommended and could not secure insurance for medical only---which is all we wanted. We had no air or transfers. Ended up calling my health insurance company and they told us we were totally covered for anything that might happen while in the Bahamas--including any medical care and or necessity for a medivac off the islands. We have Keystone East----an HMO in the Philly area. We were glad we didn't spend any extra money after finding this out. I'm not sure why we couldn't get medical trip insurance only---was it because we booked with the DVC ? Anyone else successful at getting medical only ?

Sorry my post came through 3X ! Everytime I hit "submit" I kept getting an error message that "website was not responding--please hit reload". Obviously it was working ? Strange ?

Well, we used Costco for our cruise before, and I'd ONLY do it with them again!! I know it SAYS 10% savings, BUT when we had our cruise, it ended up being quite a bit more than 10%. We saved hundreds and hundreds of dollars, and we had NO trouble with them. Glad someone else likes Costco, it's a great savings and I've seen alot of people ( not ANYONE who has posted in this subject, so don't take this personally!!) but anyways, I've seen alot of people who seem angry and all negative about Costco's,when we who are happy with them book with them and then talk about our great savings and happiness. I guess some people can't be happy unless everyone else is doing worse than they are... So, tooncantor, HAPPY for you! As for the insurance thing, I think the MAJOR reason people buy insurance for trips is, if they have to cancel something due to sickness or whatever, they get their money back from the insurance- whereas with Disney and other cruise lines, if you cancel last minute, your'e stuck with the cost anyways.

What is Costco? Is it like a Sam's Club? I live in Southern Indiana (BFE) and there is not a Costco. I think they are building one in Indianapolis (45 min drive). Would it be worth a trip? Is there a member fee?

Thanks for the info...if any can be provided?

Yes, Costco (www.costco.com) is like Sam's Club (www.samsclub.com) and BJ's Wholesale Club (www.bjs.com). I think you would have to join Costco in order to get a quote from them, but you could cancel your membership for a full refund if you decide the quote isn't worth the membership fee. Don't worry about physical proximity to your house as you would deal with folks on a toll-free number to book your cruise anyway.

Is that really true? Have people posted negative things about Costco's? A friend of mine is thinking about joining solely for the cruise savings.

And really, I doubt it's about jealousy--sometimes things get screwed up, no matter who you book with, and that negative experience is going to come through in your recommendations.

Well, in the past, myself as a few others have posted GREAT rates through Costco. There are always a few folks who are "down" on it, and always have negative things to say about a great deal, even when they have no firsthand experience with it. They always say "there's a catch", or "what does that include?" and even when you explain to them it's an apples to apples comparison, they don't believe you and say there's something hidden and their deal is better. Just GOOFY, childish stuff... Costco is GREAT. Not only for cruises, but it's actually a nice place to shop.. I DO understand sometimes things don't go the way we expect, so some have negatives for reasons like that, but my personal experience and that of others, is mostly good. Like someone said before, you can always get membership dues refunded to you if you aren't happy. Also, I think it may have changed, BUT you used to be able to get a quote without giving membership numbers. I've never been asked for it, but most everyone else here has said they ARE asked for it. So, you could TRY and get a quote if you aren't a member.

Thanks for the information Dave...I looked at Costco's website and they have two stores in Indy. I will check it out!!

I booked the first cruise with Costco and saved a fortune. My documents came early, I never had any trouble getting answers to my questions, and I got 2 gifts in the staterooms from Costco. I had hoped to use them again this trip, but cruise.com was a lot lower this time around. I wouldn't hesitate to use Costco though. They were terrific.

We booked our first cruise with Costco in November for Jan 2004. The Costco price was a full $300 less an Disney(or any other TS). With the lower price we booked a Cat 6 instead of a cat 9. We even got the $50 1st time cruiser credit. So far so good!
