I met the greatest CM working Disneyland: The First 50 Magical Years on Sunday morning. His name is Mike and he has so much knowledge about Disneyland history. Here are a few things I learned from Mike:
1. Disneyland name tags originally only included a number. You wore your gold name tag and when you retired from Disneyland, your name tag was given to the newest employee. The gold 50 year name tags are designed to resemble those original tags. There is tag 103 (I think that is the number) in the display case.
2. The castle model inside the attraction is the original model from the 1950s. If you bend down and look through the castle entrance, you will see Walk walking through it like in the famous picture from the 1950s.
3. If you look at the model of Disneyland from 1955 you will see many changes. The railroad track is longer now and there are quite a few attractions that are located outside the berm.
4. There is a picture of the real Leota at the display featuring the Haunted Mansion.
Mike was friendly and happy to share with me. He also told me about his favorite things at Disneyland - visiting Walt's Apt on Main Street, seeing the basketball court inside the Matterhorn and his meals at Club 33. He can also tell you all about the Disneyland Railroad.
