I read this post today, from a great weight loss blog called Half of Me, that I wanted to share with my fellow WISHers:
The Power of Positive Thinking
The post talks about the recent NY Magazine article about praising children for effort instead of intelligence (an article which is fascinating in its own right), and how persistence can become an unconscious response that can be learned with practice over time.
I love pastaqueen's blog, but this post in particular has really given me a lot to think about, and might even be the secret to me reaching goal (again) and actually staying there this time. Knowing that studies have actually shown that every little effort I make towards making the right choice and resisting the wrong one, each and every time, is helping to rewire my brain and make it easier to make the right choices in the future is the first thing in a while that gives me hope that I can truly learn, over time, to live like a healthy person, not just fake it and struggle for the rest of my life.
In a way, it's like "fake it 'til you make it", but in this case, there are scientific studies to back up the idea that faking it will in fact help your brain learn to make it.
