We have stopped to spend our first night at the beach. After being disappointed with Daytona's beachs we went a bit north to Palm Coast. The beaches are fantastic. We also vacation on Holden Beach NC and these beaches remind me of them.
We are staying at the Hampton Inn which is fine, but we saw a cozy motel called Palm Coast villas. They were built in the 30's and have been renovated and are just a bit up the road fromt the beach. I'll be staying there next year. I believe they have a website. I'll have to search for it.

I haven't been to Daytona in probably 15 years--their beaches used to be really scuzzy. Any beach from Palm Coast north to Fernandina/Amelia Island (with the possible exception of Jacksonville Beach) is a nice beach. The state park in St Augustine is my favorite beach.

I have family members that live in Palm Coast. It is a beautiful area.

I have heard that St. Augustine is really nice!

floridairrl2- Was this Butler or Anastasia State Park? Could you tell more about it? Thanks!

Last month we stayed at the Holiday Inn in St Augustine Beach. It was awesome. Right on the beach, very clean, white powder sand. Can't wait to go back!

How far is the drive from St. Augustine Beach to Disney? We would like to stop at the beach on our way to Disney in April and thought this might be a good choice. Any thoughts??

suzannews - how much was your room at the Holiday Inn?? Was it really on the beach?? Are there any shells to be found on the beach? I was hoping the girls could collect seashells from Florida and see the difference between the Jersey Shore and Florida.

Thanks for any info you guys can give me.

It was about a 2 hr drive from Disney. Yes, the Holiday Inn is right on the beach. That's why we stayed there. My daughter collected some shells on the beach. We ate at some great local restaurants, bar and grill type places and paid 50 cents each to go out onto the pier and watch people fish and catch baby sharks. We booked the hotel for about $69 a night with the entertainment card rate. Go to the Holiday Inn website, then St Augustine Beach to check. The hotel has its own website too, www.staugustine.holiday-inn.com .
