Gratuity how?

Oke then here’s a question of a dummy from Europe.
We are on the deluxe dining plan and will take every evening a 2 points dinner. Narcoossees.Cirtico`s etc...

I Chose from the menu and I suppose there will be no bill afterwards except from the wine.
So I will receive a bill from the alcohol with the 18 % tip from that .
But how do I now how much to give fore the dinner?

Are there acceptable amounts ore do I have to count everything that we eat?

Further how do I give the gratuity ?

Will there be an envelope or just let the amount on the table just hoping the right server will pick it up?
 
IF you are on the DP this year, your tip on the meal is included. If you are going next year the tip is not included. You will be given a receipt shownig the amount of the meal and that you paid with DDP, balance 0.00. You should tip on the price of the meal 15-20% is customary for good service. Sometimes there will be a folder with your receipt inside and you can put your tip in that, or you can leave it on the table.

But she will still need to tip for alcohol, that is NOT included on the meal plan. But I personally think 18% on alcohol is way too much, especially if you order a bottle of wine, and you're refilling.....I'd tip a couple bucks on alcohol if you're serving yourself. If your getting mixed drinks, beer, etc....a bit more.

They won't need to decide about the alcohol because an 18% tip WILL be on the bill. just as if they have 6 or more people at the table an 18% tip will be on the bill not paid by the plan but ON the bill and due to be paid.
 
Alcohol isn't covered on the plan, she will pay for that out of pocket.

That's true - and one of the 'rules', or conditions, of the Disney Dining Plan since some time in 2006 and continuing through 2008 is, if a Guest is paying for their meal using Dining Plan credits, and also orders items not covered by the DDP - i.e. items for which they will have to pay out of pocket - an 18% gratuity/tip/service charge will be automatically added to that portion of the check.

That's so nice. The server will probably pay to serve you that bottle of wine. As it goes into their total sales, and they have to tipout others on that, pay taxes on the tip you didn't leave, etc. Sales are sales, period. Deciding it's not somehow worth it to tip them is just plain ignorant.

Depending on which source you look to (there is always debate over tipping goidelines!), you'll find many advise that it is customary to exclude expensive bottled wine from calculating the tip.

"Many" can advise away if they wish, but they are incorrect, for multiple reasons. Picking and choosing which parts of your bill to tip on is horrible! As I said before, it ALL goes down as the servers sales. You don't tip on that bottle of wine? The server will, quite literally, PAY to serve it to you. Not make less or have hurt feeling, but take their money out of their pocket and give it away for the privilege of having brought that wine to your table. Nice. If you can't afford to tip on an expensive bottle of wine, you can't afford the bottle of wine.

The question is, and I've not seen an "official" answer, is will that practice continue now that the regular DDP no longer includes tips.

Before (in '06) it made sense to do it, from both a system and a practical standpoint.

Now, starting in '08, it makes little to no sense to do it, since the tip isn't included an you have to pay for the tip on everything, anyway.
 
Okay I am still confused. Last week when we were at WDW on DDP, the bill came without any totals on it only showing how many credits we used. We didn't know what we paid for meals. How do I know what to tip if I don't know how much I would have paid for the meal? :confused3

We'll find out on Jan 1st, when the new DDP goes into effect.

I'm hoping the bill will have a bit more "detail" on it, at that point.

If not, it's going to make it VERY hard to tip, I agree. But I think (though I've not seen it when using the DDP) there is an "itemized" version of the bill, already. Most patrons just never see it, since there's no reason to look/display it right now. It can be presented when it's time to request the room key for DDP credit deduction..

:thumbsup2 thats when we will find out,for the op you will be presented with one bill.on it there will be they credits left on your plan with the $ amount for the alcohol to pay plus an 18% gratuity for the alcohol and 18% for the food ordered on the plan part or your order.
I was told this in september when disney contacted me about next years Dinning plans regarding removel of tip and appitiser, as above poster says all will come clear 1st Jan 2008
