Gratuities - How do they work?

We will be on the DxDDP and I was curious how gratuities work?*

We'll be a party of 10 (but broken up over 3 packages) so will they just automatically charge 18% to our rooms? Or do they present us with a receipt with the 18% to add more for great service if wanted and sign after every meal? We would ideally like to take turns picking up the gratuity amidst the adults in our party so no one of us gets stuck paying everyone's 18% all the time.

How will it work since we're divided over 3 packages/rooms - do they calculate each room's food cost and add 18% of that portion only and present it as 3 separate checks?

And finally, do they force the 18% even at buffets where you serve yourself, or can you do 10% if the servers are only bringing drinks? What about CS meals - assuming no tip added there regardless of party size, right?

Split checks as normal. After taking off DDP-related charges, whatever remains on each check, including an automatic 18% gratuity for tables of 6 or more, can be paid by any regular means (cash, credit card, room charge, etc.)

The automatic 18% is applied at all table service locations when the party size is 6 or more, including buffets.

Remember that regardless of how many DDP rooms there are, the rule is applied for the table party size, not on each room size.

The answer to this is yes. If you have six or more at your table, then the 18% applies, including buffets. No tip at CS. And children under 3 count as guests at the table for the purpose of determining whether the party is six or more (this is one of the most widely asked questions)
