Grapevine - Open Again With Strong Wind Advisory

We are driving south right to spend the holidays with our families and I thought I'd give a heads up to anyone traveling to Anaheim from Northern California that the Grapevine is closed right now. Weather.com shows it snowing in Gorman until noon and then high winds into the night. There's a chance CalTrans won't open it back up until tomorrow, so definitely have an alternate route planned just in case.

You bet! Actually, it now sounds like the CHP is escorting cars over the pass. We will be in Simi in a few days! That's where DH and I grew up.

Just heard on KGO that CHP is escorting traffic in both directions over the Grapevine.

I heard on the radio KGO, that it's back open now. This is what I do when I drive from Northern CA to Anaheim. I always leave late and stay overnight in Buttonwillow, and finish up in the morning. It's only about 2 hours from Buttonwillow to Anaheim and if you leave early enough you can get to Anaheim pretty darn early.

Yep, I was just about to post. It's open now with a strong wind advisory. We are driving past Buttonwillow as I type. Keep a watch on it since they will close it for strong winds at times, as well.

From what I understand they closed it because of ice. They had quite a few big rigs jack knife on the ice during the night. Blame this all on my nephew... every time he comes to California from Utah to enjoy our sunshine he beings rain and snow..... Guess who flew in last night? Yep..... my nephew!
