Can anyone tell me if the Brown Derby's grapefruit cake is sold at any counter service or bakery as a dessert? Also, has anyone tried making it at home with the Disney recipe? How did it turn out?

I read here before that you can sometimes get it at Starring Rolls. But can't verify that that's true.

I think it's sometimes available at Starring Rolls. They used to give out the recipe printed on a card the shape of a Derby. Very cute. I had the recipe but never tried it.

We were quite disappointed the last time we had it (and we used to love it). It seems it is now baked off-site by a third party contractor and then frozen. Unfortunately, it tastes like it. As far as I know, they no longer give out the recipe because apparently it's not made on site any longer, and I doubt the current recipe bears any relation to the original one.

I've only been to BD once (last December) and I was totally underwhelmed by the grapefruit cake and couldn't determine why everyone raved about it. Maybe that's why?

It is just gross!! Tasted like grapefruit without any sweets on it, and I was so looking forward to it. Wish I had tried something different!!

ask for it at starring rolls cafe. I can't really tell you how it is bc I havent had it in awhile. I know it used to be good! I really hope they didnt change it or freeze it, ew.

Awww man, I've been looking forward to that piece of cake!!! I had the grapefruit cake years ago at the real Hollywood Brown Derby in LA and totally loved it. If its baked off site and frozen, it probably isn't worth an ADR at the Brown Derby then.

I purchased it several years ago at Starring Rolls without any problems. In fact, I've done it twice. It is really pricey and sounds like it is no longer the delectable treat it was at one time.

I loved that cake (as did everyone in my family). If it is baked elsewhere and frozen, it doesn't sound as if it is the same. As I said, I haven't purchased it in several years.
