I've been reading on here how good this is for snack sauce. Can it be used for cocktail weinies and not just little smokies. And what's the ratio? Anything else go in besides these two ingredients?
You can use it for either, but it's also really good with meatballs. We usually mix it about half and half. A jar of chili sauce and a small jar of grape jelly. Yum.
I would guess that whatever temperature of Chilli Sauce your guests could handle would be perfect. I used Jack Daniels BBQ sauce (2 cups) and Welsh's grape jelly (2 cups) it made rich dark sauce. I did meatballs it was a 3lb frozen box and there were 64 meatballs in the box. Crockpot low for 5 hours. Good stuff.
See the problem is I live in South Louisiana. We have a large Cajun pop., a large Veitnamese pop, and a large Spanish pop. So we have a huge selection of Chile Sauces available.
I just made this for the first time on xmas. I used Heinz Chili Sauce and Welch's Grape Jelly. I believe they were both 12 oz jars. I poured meatballs into my crockpot and poured the sauce and jelly on top. Heat on low for several hours. Next time I would mix the sauce and the jelly before hand though becuase it was kind of a pain to mix it all up together.
I have a slightly different recipe but I have tasted both and they are both delicious! The recipe I use is a can of jellied cranberry sauce and an equal size jar of picante sauce.
This is a riot! I've been using Heinz chili sauce since I was little when my dad used to use it on everything. I just said to my mother this morning over New Year's breakfast, "What is up with chili sauce these days? It used to gather dust on the selves at the supermarket, now I can never find it, it's always sold out. This was the last bottle on the shelf at the store yesterday yet again!" Now I know why! It's the DIS!!!!!!!
