Another thread got me thinking about my mom. Then I started thinking about what a very special person she was in the lives of my two children along with my dad who is still a very big part of their lives. It reminded me of a couple of prints I had purchased for them with poetry that really described how my children saw the two of them (especially when they were small). So here's to all our grandparents!!!!!! You play very special roles!!!!!

WHAT ARE GRANDMAS FOR?
Grandmas are for stories
about things of long ago.
Grandmas are for caring
about all the things you know...
Grandmas are for rocking you
and singing you to sleep,
Grandmas are for giving you
nice memories to keep...
Grandmas are for knowing
all the things you're dreaming of...
But, most importantly of all,
grandmas are for love.

WALKING WITH GRANDPA
I like to walk with Grandpa,
His steps are short like mine.
He doesn't say "Now Hurry Up,"
He always takes his time.

I like to walk with Grandpa,
His eyes see thing like mine do -
Wee pebbles bright, a funny cloud,
Half hidden drops of dew.

Most people have to hurry,
They don't stop and see.
I'm glad that God made Grandpa,
Unrushed, and young like me.

GRANDMA'S HUGS ARE MADE OF LOVE!
Everything my grandma does
is something special made with love.
She take time to add the extra touch
that says, "I love you very much."
She fixes hurts with a kiss and smile
and tell good stories grandma-style.
It's warm and cozy on her lap
for secret telling or a nap.
And when I say my prayer at night,
I ask God to bless and hold her tight.
Cause when it comes to giving hugs
my grandma's arms are filled with love!

GRANDPA'S TOOL SHED
Grandpa's tool shed is a special place,
Full of mystery and delight,
Where little kids can come and watch
While Grandpa builds a kite.
Each day before the sunset,
Grandpa is always there,
The sound of his saw and hammer
Filling the evening air.
Grandpa can fix anything
And make it look brand-new-
He fixes toy cars and airplanes,
Trucks and trailers, too.
There are many happy moments
Pleasant to recall,
But Grandpa in his tool shed
Is the nicest one of all.

DS had to find a poem to read at grandparents day a few years ago and we used the one "Walking with Grandpa" but modified it:

I like to walk with Grandma & Grandpa,
Their steps are short like mine.
They don't say "Now Hurry Up,"
They always takes their time.

I like to walk with Grandma & Grandpa,
Their eyes see things like mine do -
Wee pebbles bright, a funny cloud,
Half hidden drops of dew.

Most people have to hurry,
They don't stop and see.
I'm glad that God made Grandma & Grandpa,
Unrushed, and young like me.

It som reminds me of the year they went to DW with us, dad 74 & mom 69....it was a different pace in the parks but seeing them share so many things there is something I will never forget. My mom & dad had never been, it was our 2nd trip. Mom & dad got right in the pictures with them and went on most all the rides (not the thrill rides), that is what makes WDW so special to me is that everyone can enjoy it together. I have a picture on my desk of my dear mom & DD snuggled right up against her......it was taken right along the rail of the Indy cars at MK, DD is enjoying a "Itzakadoozie" pop with it dripping all over her and they are both smiling from ear to ear.

If anyone else has special poems or anything else they'd like to post for grandparents please do!!!!!!

My grandma passed away last year. She was the most important person to me when I was growing up. I knew there would be a day when she wouldn't be here any more, I had no idea how soon that day would come. What I wouldn't give to have a chance to tell her how much better my life was because she was in it.

I sobbed like a baby when she died. She was the one person that always had unconditional love and unbelievable patience. :lovestruc
