Does anyone out there have advice on how to handle people who have trouble getting around in the parks? Are there motorized chairs available? Golf carts? Any of these things for rent inside the Park? My mominlaw does well here at home, but I am very concerned about the amount of walking she will do in January at the Park. Any input is appreciated.

if she can drive a motorized wheel chair...i highly recommend renting one from an offsite place(you can find the info in disabilities here on the boards)

we got free "push" wheelchairs for the grandparents & it was a WORKOUT...i was SO dead at the end of the days & i missed SO many pictures & little things cause i was pushing them around (NOT fun)

WDW is VERY accomadating to wheelchairs & there are only a handful of rides/shows where they ask if you can transfer.

We went with my mom (64 at the time) and grandma (86 at the time). It was way too much for my grandma and even my mom was totally worn out. I forgot how much walking there was. We got a wheelchair for my grandma and pretty much had to use to it all the time, which was really inconvenient. She was too scared to use one of the scooters. I would totally recommend a scooter over a wheelchair, because someone has to push the wheelchair and it gets heavy after a while.

We to are going to WDW with my inlaws this December. DFIL just got his second knee replacement late last year, and I'm not sure how he will handle all the walking (he has Lupus as well). He is INCREDIBLY stuborn, and will NEVER admit that he can't handle it all, and will NEVER sit anything out. He will just keep stomping on, in all the pain in the world, and not tell anyone. Long story short, I can see him killing himself the first two days or so, and then be bed-ridden for the rest, so I would love to get him a motorized scooter - and I think the kids would get a kick out of it too!!
Any suggestions on how to get someone like him to agree to one??

I just spit water all over my computer. I must have a dirty mind, because I read this title and thought you were concerned grandma was "getting around" if you catch my drift.:rotfl2:

Anyhow, sorry I don't have any advice!:rotfl:

if he loves the grandkids...tell him he can give them rides....or he gets to the front of the lines on some rides & preferred seating.
that might work & detour away from the "handicapped' label
DHs parents were like that, but we got down to it & told them its ALOT of walking & we either get it now or never..we won
