Grand Villas - # Occupants Confused

Yeah I know it shouldn't be that hard.

It's 12 correct?

But when I was reviewing BLT, and AKV grand villas it looks to me like there are 5 actual beds and 2 full pullouts. Which in my mind ammounts to 14.

Is there a case where this is permissable?

Just looking into DVC rental options for a family reunion possibility in 2013. I know it's way in advance but when dealing the financial cost it's gonna take some of us that long to save.

I believe the official limit on the grand villas is 12 + 1 child under 3 in a porta-crib, even if the actual furniture could potentially provide sleeping arrangements for more. I'm not sure they have any flexibility with that as it may be a code issue.

I thought I read somewhere, maybe in the planner, that even though there is additional bedding (an additional pullout), the maximum is still 12.

Two pullouts? We've stayed at a GV at OKW twice and there was only one pullout sofa.

So, I would guess the math would be 5 beds + 1 sleeper sofa X 2 people on each = 12.

I think they put an additional pullout in the common area upstairs at BLT.

They don't list it at AKV but the Kidani floor plans show a pullout upstairs in the common area.

The Kidani GV (not sure about BLT) have a loft area on the second floor as you come up the stairs that has a pullout sofa also. The limit is still 12 but it does provide an extra sleeping area.

For that many people you would be better off getting four 2-bedrooms (or five). The point requirement for a 2BR is less than half that required for a GV.

No worries - it's a matter of scrounging/renting at that point. But it's a long way off and it depends on situations of a lot of people. Basically we're looking at 13 Families or so with a few kids scattered amongst them.

I agree with the post above, it's much cheaper and easier to rent 2 BRs. Besides GVs are hard to get. If you want you could have one GV and the rest sleep in 2BRs. Also many of the GVs have stairs and some families with small children wouldn't want to deal with stairs during a vacation.

Absolutely agree with this. If you have a core group that you know will not back out you might get the GV for that and then suggest the other families rent a reservation for the size unit that will work for them either singly or as a couple of them going in together.

It sounds like a huge undertaking - good luck and hope it becomes a wonderful trip for all concerned.

I'm liking the idea of 1 GV and a bunch of other options ranging from studio - 2 br.

That way we can still gather a bunch in one place. Mind you 36 odd people in one place might be a bit much. I think my next investigation may be with Grand Gathering.
