We have just booked the GV at BWV...so excited. We put in a request for the 2 floor unit. Which gives you more space the 1 or 2 floor? Are there any specific ones to request? Have only located a layout for the one floor unit. Does anyone know where I can find the layout for the 2 floor unit?

We stayed in both and prefer the one floor. We enjoyed the two story, but the one floor was better for us. One of our sons slept on the pullout in the living room, and in the one floor it's a good distance from the dining room table. In the morning, you don't feel like your going to wake him up, while in the two floor it's much closer.
We also liked having all of the six balconies on one floor, and they seemed larger than the two floor balconies.
The two floor had the washer and dryer in the hallway upstairs outside the studios, while the one floor has a seperate large laundry room outside the main bedroom with a sink, and folding table.
The two floor had a balcony looking over the living room, which our kids enjoyed, but it just "seemed" smaller. We did like the two floor, but I guess we were just spoiled with the one floor. This past trip we actually requested the two floor just so we could experience both.
We usually have friends over at night, and you definitely have more room to entertain in the one story.
You will enjoy both, good luck with your' choice.

We have only stayed in a 2-story. When we went we requested a 1 floor unit but no one was checking out when we arrived. I believe there are only 2 single floor units so they may not even be available. We really loved the GV. I wouldn't worry about which one. They all have great views!

There are actually 5 single-story units and 2 two-story GVs. I also believe that room 3047 is handicap accessible (and formerly a smoking unit), which may or may not play into your decision. If so, make non-handicap access one of your preferences.

Thanks for all the info...
Peterd: In the 2 story unit, what is the set-up? Where are all the bedrooms located?
I may be best off not having a request and just getting what they give me.

Does anyone know if you can get the one story GV guaranteed? We thought about getting a GV in a few years for a big family trip. BUT I broke my femur in March 2003 and still have lots of trouble with stairs. I'm walking really good now, but stairs are a problem. I can get up and down them SLOWLY and PAINFULLY, but only if both hands are free to use the rails. Just wondering if a one story can be guaranteed at the time of booking. I would want/need to know for sure at the time of booking, as we would need to borrow points.

Thanks!

ReneeQ -

I'm sure you cannot guarantee, though I believe MS will try to accommodate medical requests. But even if you can only get a 2 story, worst case is you'd have to sleep in the master bedroom on the first floor and not do laundry... is that a bad thing?

Thanks sunan! I didn't realize the master bedroom was on the first floor. And as the DVC owners, that's where my husband and I will be!

I think I need to spend time with you. Somehow, even though I am the DVC owner, I usuall end up with the couch:( I will say, a couch in Disney is better than a couch in NJ;)

There is one one story grand villa #3047 that is handicapped and you could probably get a guarantee for this but otherwise its potluck. However if you are in the master bedroom its a non issue.

We just returned from staying in a two story Grand Villa at BWV and we very disappointed in the way that the master bedroom and master bath were not connected for privacy. As it is you have to exit the bedroom door to go in to the toilet and shower area and also have to exit the bedroom door to go into the tub area…all three of these are separate rooms and all have a separate door. I am amazed that this bedroom & bathroom layout was approved to be built, especially since they changed the setup to the later OKW master bathrooms after some initial concerns for privacy.

P.S. We took a tour of the SSR villas and we found the Grand Villa there to have a wonderful room plan. The resort looks great and we can’t wait to return to stay there.

ReneeQ,

While not directly addressing your question about BWV, I just toured SSR, and they have made some provisions for people with disabilities. The 2 floor GVs have exterior doors on both levels... so if necessary, someone who cannot use stairs could exit to the hallway, take an elevator up to the next floor, and then enter the upstairs level. It may not be ideal... but it is nice to know that access to both levels is possible.

I booked a GrandVilla for December this year at BW and my parents both have bad knee problems. I explained this when I called and they guaranteed us the one handicap unit. They explained all the "downsides" of the unit, higher toilet, etc., but these are not problems for people who need them. My parents are thrilled.
