after reading a post here are my questions 1) how many grand villa's are there and 2) what happens if they are all rented by cash ressie way before the 11 month window just curious I don't think I would ever need one LOL thanks Kim:D

I believe there were 27 of them before the Commodore House was demolished and the new buildings were put up. I think the total may be 30 now.

I am not sure about those numbers, but they are in the ballpark.

No DVC units at any hotel can be rented for cash unless one of two things have happened. First, an owner may have used points on the Clruise, Concierge Collection, or Disney Club. Then Disney uses those points and reserves rooms in accordance with the 7-11 month booking windows. Secondly, within 60 days of the reservation, when it seems that members will probably not try to use points for vacant nights, the rooms are released to CRO for regular reservations by the geberal public.

I have stayed in an OKW Grand Villa every year since '92. Never had a problem and never really expect one. I will be checking into another one on Dec 2nd, its getting close, I can't wait.

Rich,

I made a ressie for September of next year and had enough OKW points to make 6 of the 7 days. I have to wait until February to use some of my OKW points for the last day (please don't chastize me for being a trader, I am a new convert to the wonders of OKW) Do you think I will have trouble making my ressie for my last day in February? (This is for a GV)

I guess you have a typo or something here. It looks like you are talking about all OKW points, there should be no 7-11 month window issue.

The way to really give yourself the best chance is to reserve all the weekdays now and leave a weekend day for the seven month window. You can usually reserve weekend days almost anytime you want.

A week and a few days to go till I get to walk into a GV again, YIPPEEEEE

Sorry Rich, I meant my BWV points (that's why I didn't want to get chastized) That's where the 7 month window fits in.

ok guys let me rephrase the question based on there being 30 grand villas what would happen if 30 families called to rent these villias for christmas week of 2003 CRO can not rent them to these people at that time because they have to wait to see if us as members are going to use them first? Kim

Kim,
The answer is, NO, OKW grand villas can not be rented to the public (non DVC owners) until after both ressie windows for owners are exhausted. That is unless CRO has access to one of the GVs as part of the 4% that is NOT part of the condominium. I am not sure if that is the case or not, but would expect it might be.

Actually, I don't think that is quite true either.

When people use their points for COncierge Collecion, Disney CLub, or the DCL, those points are available for CRO to sell. As long as they stay within the 7-11 month booking window associated with the points used, RO can use those points for a Grand Villa at OKW whenever they want.

I have to believe that they would never use those points to hog all the Grand Villas.

Yes, Rich, I think that is right. I know the first time we were down on points, there was a couple in our building who had a GV on an exchange through II. They had gotten in at the last minute and were surprised to get a GV. They had been trying desperately to arrange guests since it was just the 2 of them!

That's interesting because DVC does not exchange the GV with II. I wonder if this was early on and the GV were still owned by DVD and given to II rather than let them go empty.

Dean,
Yes, that was the case. They had expected a 1 bedroom, but got the GV after they arrived.
