I was wondering if anyone has tried the Grand Floridian Afternoon Tea in the last six months or so?

What is your opinion of it? Is there something else you would rather do?
We are thinking of a light meal for our last day at the world because we are going to have an extremly heavy seafood meal that night.

The tea sounds kinda of nice but it also sounds kind of snooty. I would be going in basic summer gear so would I feel out of place?

Thanks for any help.

We love it! It really is not snooty at all. In fact it is a really relaxing experience. Most of the guests are in park attire, some guest having special occasions may be dressed up, but you will not feel out of place.
We go each time we are in WDW, we enjoy it so much. This past summer we all had the Buckingham Palace which consists of the tea sandwiches, scones, and pastries or strawberries. There is a great selection of teas, the pots are filled with hot water and the loose tea leaves and you are given a small strainer to put over your cup when you pour the tea. You can have as much tea as you want. One year we had the Grand Tea which we ate in place of lunch and we were stuffed.
In December my mother and I went and had the Tea and just scones, this was a snack in the afternoon.
If you have a chance to go, do it it really is nice.
Here is a link to Deb Will site which gives the menu etc

Excuse me but do you mean that the entire party is all you can eat or just the tea/beverage? I am asking cause I would love to go to one of these but my big eater hubby would be ticked off enough with dainty sandwiches and such and if he could not have seconds, thirds or whatever he would be very unhappy.

The tea.

We took our DS4 in October (so not quite in the last six months but close) It was great. I love a good English tea (I am English and miss the very unhealthy cream teas you can get in places like Devon with scones, jam and clotted cream) I've been to a bunch of places in US that offer an afternoon tea, and this is probably my favourite. I love the Grand Floridian. My son didn't get a pot of tea, but a pot of chocolate milk. They had a special Mrs Potts tea for kids, he did very well with the bone china teacup!

Figures, NCombs. Can't you just see my big old bear of a hubby with mounds and mounds of finger sandwiches? Bet they do not have his required steak in them either. LOL

Now since he has been accustomed to drinking 30-40 cups of coffee a day he might well get his money's worth out of the tea though. :teeth:

Thanks for the heads up though.

I love the tea. I get the selection that starts with a glass of sparkling wine.
The sandwiches, scone and pastries fill me up, and I love the neverending
cup o' tea. (The servers will add hot water to your teapot.)

The first time I went was in 1999. I wore a Goofy tshirt and shorts.
Definitely not snooty.

I've seen people wearing "resort casual" clothes, but never anything nicer
than that. (If they do, it hasn't been at any time I've been there.)

So you just sit at your table and the servers bring everything to you? Just making sure I know how this works if I decide to go. Wouldn't want to look like a numb skull....not that it wouldn't be the first time. :rotfl:

Me, dh, and ds(8) did the tea in March! :flower: We did the afternoon before our 6pm Cirque show. We all really enjoyed it! We went dressed up d/t going to Cirque also! It was a lot of fun to get dressed up! Even my ds had a great time! Dh and I got the Buckingham tea which came with tea, tea sandwiches, scones, and I had triffle, my dh had 2 pastries. My ds had Mrs. Potts tea, which he also enjoyed! It also made for a great photo op! :Pinkbounc We look forward to going back! Beautiful location, very nice service! :Pinkbounc

My husband and I went for afternoon tea last November and I got the high tea (I believe that was the name) with the scones and finger sandwiches :lovestruc . My husband got another selection ( I can't remember the name of it but I think it was at the bottom of the list on the menu) which was more substantial and he really liked it. :earboy2:

the 1st was the day we arrived we left at 5am for the airport landed got lost then finally chekced into the WL amamzing view we put out stuff away and drove to the GF just in time for our PS
we loved it so much we did it a couple of times
actually my mom loved the GF so much thats all she wants to stay at
we ate luch there at teh GF cafe several times and i cant say enough about the food and service

I think I want to do this, however, we are on the MYW dining plan for our trip, and I am hesitant to add any extra expense for food. I anticipate that we will be quite full most of the trip. BUT.... it sounds like so much fun and like something unique.. basically, Im trying to talk myself into it...
