My friend's son is getting married in September and the church is in a suburb to the north of Grand Rapids, (about 45 minutes North of downtown). I'm looking for recommendations for a nice restaurant for the rehearsal dinner. There'll be about 30 guests.

Any help we could get would be very much appreciated! TIA! :goodvibes

Louis Bentons Steakhouse in downtown GR is nice. Charlies Crab is in downtown GR also. It's right on the Grand River. The Cygnus is in the Amway Grand Plaza at the very top of the building, I'm not sure how many they could handle though. The BOB has lots of nice restaurants in it. If you google "The Gilmore Collection" it will show you a whole bunch of restaurants, maybe even one that is closer to your church. All their restaurants are good and very nice.

I could be wrong, but I think she's talking about Grand Rapids, MInnesota.

LOL! I never thought of that--oops! Can't help with that one.....

Don't feel bad. I was just about to recommend Charlie's Crab in downtown Grand Rapids, as well.

Who knew:confused3 :goodvibes

Me too! I don't know a thing about GR, MN. I felt all in the know for once!

Oh, sorry, no, I need info about restaurants in the northern suburbs of Grand Rapids, Michigan! I should have been more specific! This is for my friend's son, whose fiance is from Grand Rapids.

I'm not interested in restaurants downtown, since the groom feels that they need something closer to the church, which is about 45 minutes north of downtown. My friend is hosting the rehearsal dinner, which is why she's looking for a good restaurant. Her son is telling her that "there's nothing" in that area, which we find very hard to believe!

Thanks again for any help! :goodvibes

45 minutes North of downtown puts you pretty close to Big Rapids, doesn't it??

Anything in GR would be pretty far of a drive.

There is some decent stuff in Rockford. A kid I went to school with opened an Italian restaurant there. I think it's called Marinades.

Do you know the name of the city where the church is?

The statemen that there "is nothing in the area" isn't too far off. Big Rapids is a college town and any towns close to it are pretty small.

My Dad said they put a Bennigans in Big Rapids. It seems casual for a rehearsal dinner but doable.

Thanks! I'll get the name of the town where the church is located and come back and post it. :thumbsup2

What town are we talking specifically? I live in Rockford, about 20 minutes north of downtown. The other posters were right though, north of here leaves you with not much. Big Rapids is about an hour north of me (I drive there for work a lot) and anything in between is just about no-man's land.
There are a few decent places near me that would work for a rehearsal dinner.

I was thinking the same thing.

Marinades is great, but it's more of a gormet pizza kind of place, so I'm not sure it would work for a rehersal dinner. We have one here in my town as well.

Martha7- if you could give us a couple of town names near the church, I'm sure we can come up with some recommendations.

My Dad said something about Reds on the River. Anyone know what that is like?

I know there are a lot of good restaurants in and around Rockford. I just can't remember any of them right now.

For some reason, I thought the Marinades in Rockford was a little fancier than the other Marinades.

We went to the Timbers a few times when we lived in GR but that's not directly North of GR. It's very cozy.

I hear Red's is great, though a little on the pricey side. I haven't eaten there yet, even though it's literally down the street from my house and we keep saying we need to go there. Timber's is pretty close and fairly easy to find from the expressway. I love their soups. Uh oh, getting hungry now.

Ooh.... Red's is a wonderful idea if you are near Rockford. Nice place, big menu, a little something for everyone. It is a bit pricey, but you'll pay less there than you will at a similar restaurant in downtown GR.

OK, I'm back. I really appreciate the help, everyone! The church is indeed in Rockford.

My friend is impressed that I have "people" who are advising me on this! :goodvibes

I would check out Reds then.

I wonder how she got that Rockford is 45 minutes from GR?:rotfl2:

What type of rehearsal dinner are you planning? Casual, a bit dressy?

Have fun!!:)

How far is Rockford from downtown Grand Rapids in actuality? I think she's planning something fairly nice, since a lot of her friends are coming in from out of town for the wedding. She said she'd anticipate about thirty guests. Thanks so much for the help! :thumbsup2
