I am reading through the wonderful Grand Californian thread, but it's like 108 pages, so it's going to take me awhile :rotfl: I am wondering where the standard rooms are located, ie, on all 6 floors? What is a *good floor*? Is it better to be higher up for a view, or does it just take that much longer going down and up the elevator that way, if that makes sense. Just would like some idea, in case I have any input at all in a room choice :worship:

I do not think there are any rooms on the first floor, and the sixth floor are concierge rooms. But there are standard rooms on floors 2-5.

There is no consensus on where the good places are at GCH. We paid for an upgrade to a park view and wanted to limit our walking. The long corridors at the GCH can make the walk to the parks deceptively far. We wanted to limit it. So we got into the east wing where we could take the stairs down to DTD and head right into DL.

FWIW, check page 1 of my mini-trip report for room 5438 views - http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2526004

See hotels maps from the GCH superthread here: http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=36355632&postcount=450

Hydroguy, you are always so helpful. Thank you for that!

Do you know what rooms 5240-5260 are facing? And 5241 -5259? 5239 and 5219? And 5234-5218? See where I'm going with this? lol

We had a standard room on level 2 and it was a view over the entrance. Then we moved to a standard room with a downtown disney view on the 5th floor and we could see the matterhorn from our room :) I can't remember the room numbers though :( i wish I'd written them down.

The 5240-5260 rooms face DCA, but that is the DVC (Disney Vacation Club - time share) wing. 5241-5259 is same thing and faces the hotel entrance. 5239-5219 face the hotel entrance. 5234-5218 face the pool area and some can see into DCA a little.

This map combined with the previous hotel map I linked will help a lot: http://www.wikimapia.org/#lat=33.8081026&lon=-117.9215062&z=18&l=0&m=b

All the rooms you asked about are in the west wing of the hotel and very far away from the park entrances - relatively speaking. We were in the east wing to the right. That means we could pop down the elevators there and then be right at the special entrance to DCA. We could also head all the way to the east end of the wing to the right and go down the stairwell and pop out into DTD right by the security entrance and then DL.

The only time we had a further walk was coming back from DL as we had to walk thru DTD to the GCH lobby then back track to the east wing. Sometimes we came back on the monorail from DL and that shortened the walk a bit.
